JOB SUMMARY: 

The Micro Soldering Technician performs precision hand-soldering and microscopic reworks on surface-mount technology (SMT) and through-hole components. Working primarily under high-magnification stereomicroscopes, the technician fixes broken traces, swaps complex microchips, and rectifies manufacturing defects on delicate circuitry.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

· Precision Soldering: Perform intricate hand-soldering of microscopic components 

· PCB Rework & Repair: Diagnose, desolder, and replace damaged or defective parts without damaging surrounding traces. 

· Microscopic Inspection: Utilize high-powered digital and stereomicroscopes to inspect solder joints for quality and compliance. 

· Component Testing: Use multimeters, oscilloscopes, and automated test equipment to troubleshoot inoperative assemblies. 

· Quality Standard Adherence: Review work against strict industry quality guidelines, most notably IPC-A-610 or J-STD-001 certification standards

· Documentation: Maintain detailed logs of components repaired, materials used, and testing outcomes. 




REQUIRED SKILLS AND TOOLS:

  • Manual Dexterity: Exceptional hand-eye coordination and a steady hand are essential for manipulating microscopic parts.
  • Equipment Proficiency: Mastery of fine-tipped micro-soldering irons, hot air rework stations, preheaters, & ultrasonic cleaners.
  • Chemical Knowledge: Correct utilization of specialized materials like liquid/gel flux, low-melt solder, solder wicks, & isopropyl alcohol.
  • ESD Safety: Strict adherence to Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) protocols to avoid destroying sensitive microelectronics.



QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or vocational certification in electronics is preferred.
  • Experience:  Generally requires 1 to 4+ years of hands-on experience in fine-pitch electronic assembly or hardware repair.
  • Certifications: Industry-standard certifications such as IPC-A-610, IPC-7711/7721, or J-STD-001 are heavily preferred by employers.
