Public Health Adjunct - Remote Description

South College Online seeks candidates for an adjunct Public Health faculty member. Successful candidates will have a terminal degree in Public Health, and preference will be given to candidates who have successfully taught Public Health in the online format. The position is online remote and will report directly to the Department Chair. 

Specific courses are:

Introduction to Health Administration

This course introduces the student to administrative theories, methods, and tasks that are essential to a successful administrator. It includes an introduction to health-care delivery systems, decision-making, and the management functions.

Foundations of Public Health Practice

This course will explore the principles and concepts on which public health practice is based. It will provide students with a broad framework for understanding the impact of public health practice on population health.

Community and Population Health

This course will explore the impact of the social determinants of health, health disparities, health inequity, and health inequality from the community and population perspective. Students will assess health outcomes and use behavioral and social science to provide appropriate responses to develop, improve and facilitate social and behavioral change efforts.

Public Health Policy and Administration

This course explores the public health systems, processes and policies used to shape the provision of healthcare. Students focus on administration, regulations and laws, financing, need and demand, and quality of care related to health policy in the United States. Policy decisions and the consequences of those decisions are examined.

Principles of Biostatistics

This course provides students with practical knowledge about the use of biostatistics in public health practice. Topics include, but not limited to, the concepts of sampling, measurement, probability, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, and 2-way tables. More advanced biostatistical strategies such as ANOVA, linear and multiple regression, and categorical analysis are also introduced. Students use statistical software to perform these basic and advanced analyses.

Planning and Evaluation

This course provides an opportunity for integration of the student public health knowledge and skills.  Students reflect on the public health competencies and frameworks to demonstrate scholarship through research of a public health issue.

Environmental Health

This course explores the biological, chemical, and physical factors affecting human health and the environment. The course provides students with practical applications for a safer and healthier environment and also focuses on the impact of these factors on public health and society including approaches to regulations, enforcement, and policy development.

Responsibilities:

• Teach Public Health courses in an online learning environment.
• Provide timely feedback and academic support to students.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and grades.
• Collaborate with the Department Chair and faculty to enhance course quality and student engagement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• The major responsibility of all faculty members is to provide quality instruction in each assigned course within the approved academic program curriculum.
• As appropriate, the Dean/Department Chair may solicit assistance in the development, implementation, and continuous evaluation of the curriculum, including sequence of courses and student learning outcomes.
• Though not required, the adjunct faculty member is invited and encouraged to participate as appropriate in institution/school/department committees.
• Though not required, the adjunct (part-time) faculty member is encouraged to participate in scholarship and service activities to assist in meeting the South College outcomes identified for these areas.
• The adjunct (part-time) faculty member should respond, in a timely manner, to specific and general information requests from the institution and administrative officials, prospective employers, professional organizations, public agencies, civic organizations, private foundations, general public, and students, as appropriate. At all times, promote appropriate standards of linguistic expression in both written and oral communications.
• Ensure that all academic program requirements and forms of documentation (e.g., clinical evaluations, competency documentation) are completed as required for each student and submitted per established deadlines.
• Ensure all faculty expectations are met on a weekly basis.
• Appropriately manage all classroom activities. 
• Be reasonably accessible to students for questions and assistance.
• Monitor educational and professional literature for the best practices in areas related to courses taught.
• Assist with the development of curricular and policy changes as requested by the Dean/Department Chair.
• Assist with the selection of new textbooks as appropriate.
• Adjunct (part-time) faculty members teaching on a regular basis are required to participate in professional development activities – minimum of 1 per year.
• Though not required, adjunct (part-time) faculty members are encouraged to actively participate in institutions and/or School/Department committees assigned to or volunteered for.
• Adhere to all institutional and School/Department policies as described in the job description, employee/faculty handbook, or other separate guidelines and memoranda.
• Advanced verbal and written communication often in stressful situations involving students or co-workers
• Fast-paced work environment requiring quick adaptation skills in a changing strategic and tactical workplace
• Complete other duties as assigned by the Dean/Department Chair.

Education:

• Terminal degree in Public Health required.

Experience:

• Applicants must have a terminal degree in Public Health with successful completion of a minimum of 18 hours of graduate coursework in subject matter field of Public Health.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Commitment to fostering student learning and success in a virtual environment.
• Preference will be given to applicants with prior successful online teaching.
