JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Construction Project Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all technical and engineering aspects of construction projects from pre-construction through project closeout. This position supports the Project Manager by ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract documents, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. 


Essential Functions:

Key Responsibilities:

· Lead engineering and construction activities from pre-construction through project closeout.

· Manage project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, schedules, and closeout packages.

· Review contracts, drawings, and specifications to ensure compliance and identify risks.

· Coordinate with project managers, clients, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to deliver successful projects.

· Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, cost forecasts, and progress reports.

· Support procurement, subcontract administration, and equipment/material coordination.

· Monitor field operations to ensure compliance with safety, quality, environmental, and project requirements.

· Resolve technical and construction issues to minimize delays and maintain project performance.

· Conduct site inspections, quality control reviews, commissioning, punch list, and closeout activities.

· Serve as a primary liaison with federal Contracting Officers (KOs), CORs, joint-venture partners, and stakeholders.

· Mentor and provide technical guidance to field staff and junior project engineers.

· Negotiate change orders, resolve project issues, and support timely decision-making to meet scope, schedule, and budget objectives.

Other Duties:

· Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, safety rules and instructions.

· Maintain strict confidentiality.

· Perform other duties as assigned.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but provides technical leadership, mentorship, and day-to-day coordination for Project Engineers, field personnel, subcontractors, and project support staff.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

· Comprehensive knowledge of construction management principles, engineering practices, and project delivery methods.

· Strong knowledge of construction management, engineering principles, and project delivery methods. 

· Understanding of construction contracts, drawings, specifications, building codes, and OSHA safety requirements. 

· Knowledge of project scheduling, budgeting, cost control, procurement, and risk management. 

· Experience in or willingness to work in Microsoft Office and construction management/project scheduling software. 

· Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills. 

· Excellent leadership, communication, and team collaboration abilities. 

· Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills. 

· Ability to interpret technical documents and identify project risks and solutions. 

· Effective negotiation, conflict resolution, and stakeholder management skills. 

· Strong attention to detail and accuracy. 

· Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. 

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively with clients, subcontractors, field personnel, and project teams. 

· Ability to travel to project sites and work in varying field conditions as required. 

· Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and sound judgment.


QUALIFICATIONS:

· Minimum of 10 years of experience in civil construction, vertical construction, facilities, and project management.

· Experience managing construction projects from planning through completion.

· OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification required or must be obtained within an established timeframe after hire.

· Experience developing and maintaining proposals, project budgets, schedules, reports, and spreadsheets.

· Experience reviewing contract documents, scopes of work, specifications, and project deliverables.

· Strong project scheduling and tracking experience using Microsoft Project.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work is performed in both indoor office environments and outdoor construction sites with exposure to varying weather conditions. Regular travel may be required based on project locations and business needs.
