Overview

The Housing Authority of Salt Lake City (HASLC), is a federally funded Special Purpose Government Agency, created to provide rent subsidies, and promote affordable housing for low-income persons residing in Salt Lake City. HASLC is the largest public housing authority in the state of Utah and the largest provider of Affordable Housing in the Salt Lake Valley. We currently assist over 10,000 individuals, who are seniors, people with disabilities, children, previously unhoused, and households with minimal income, a place to call home.


General Purpose as Accountant

The Accountant performs a wide range of general accounting functions to support the Housing Authority of Salt Lake City (HASLC) and its affiliated nonprofit entities. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports and statements, supporting audits, and ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements. The Accountant plays a key role in supporting a complex organization that administers federally and state-funded programs, manages housing assets, and supports the agency’s mission to provide affordable housing opportunities to the community.

Requirements

Essential Functions of Accountant

  • Records financial transactions, inputs data, journal vouchers and other such adjustments into computerized system. Posts journal entries from all modules to the general ledger and generates allocation journal entry. Compiles and compares information. May do a variety of tasks that require research, analysis, etc. to provide information for various projects or budget information.
  • Aids in maintenance of general ledgers of receipts and expenditures. Preparation of financial and compliance reports as required.
  • Reviews budget of program funds; prepares operating statements, balance sheets and other reports; assists with the preparation of financial summaries, statements, reports and budgets; establishes and maintains the general and special ledgers and other accounting records.
  • Controls specialized accounts such as tenants accounts receivable, security deposits, operating & replacement reserves, assistance payments and cash receipts.
  • Assists in close of financial operations and preparation of required financial statements.
  • Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform audits.


Desired Skills & Experience of Accountant

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or other related field and 3-5 years of accounting experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting and auditing principles, with the ability to apply them accurately in a highly regulated environment.
  • Proven ability to perform in-depth accounting, financial reporting, and analysis while maintaining productivity under tight deadlines and pressure.
  • High proficiency with accounting systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and related financial software.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and prioritization skills, with strong attention to detail and adherence to established policies and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to deliver exceptional customer service and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, while handling confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.

Salary Description
$55,000-$68,000 annually, depending on experience
