About Cure SMA

Cure SMA leads the way to a world where everyone impacted by spinal muscular atrophy is empowered to lead independent, successful, and fulfilling lives. We provide practical support programs for our community, advocate for their needs, fund and direct comprehensive research that drives breakthroughs in treatment, and advance access to high quality care. We will not stop until we have a cure.

We work to create, nurture, and sustain an inclusive culture where differences in life experience and perspective are embraced — because that is what drives the knowledge sharing and innovation our community deserves.

The Opportunity

Cure SMA is looking for an organized, driven fundraising professional with a track record of event-based fundraising success — particularly peer-to-peer, endurance, and Do-It-Yourself events — to join our Development team.

You will manage a national portfolio of fundraising events with a revenue goal of $350K, juggling multiple priorities while maintaining high standards of execution and donor stewardship. Beyond running great events, you will cultivate new partnerships and opportunities that grow the portfolio year over year.

This role also serves as a liaison to Spanish-speaking families in our community, so fluency in Spanish and English is required — reading, writing, and speaking — you will translate materials, resources, and web content, and connect with families directly in the language they are most comfortable in. This is central to our strategic goal of engaging our entire SMA community.

What You Will Do

  • Deliver on revenue, recruitment, and implementation goals for assigned events, generating growth in participants, sponsorships, volunteers, and in-kind support
  • Oversee event planning start to finish — budgets, timelines, logistics, and high-touch donor experiences — executing to high standards and within budget
  • Provide accurate financial tracking and monthly reporting
  • Collaborate with teammates to design and launch new fundraising initiatives that grow revenue beyond the current portfolio
  • Build and steward relationships with key participants, sponsors, volunteers, and community leaders, with a focus on securing and expanding corporate partnerships
  • Recruit, train, and manage volunteers at varying levels of experience, with professionalism and diplomacy
  • Serve as liaison to Spanish-speaking families — translating written materials, resources, and website content into Spanish, and interpreting in calls, meetings, and in-person interactions
  • Draft and review Spanish-language communications for accuracy, tone, and cultural fit before they reach families
  • Handle sensitive information with discretion and ensure compliance with Cure SMA policies and financial controls
  • Demonstrate inclusion and cultural competency in working with diverse communities

What You Bring

Required

  • Full professional fluency in both Spanish and English across all three modes — reading, writing, and speaking. Written fluency is essential: this role translates materials, resources, and web content for our community.
  • Three (3+) years of experience in event management, fundraising, and volunteer/committee leadership
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in nonprofit management, philanthropy, communications, marketing, business, or public relations (five or more years of professional event fundraising experience will be considered in lieu of a degree)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with overlapping deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and project management skills
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, and the ability to articulate Cure SMA’s mission and impact
  • Excellent time management and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency in MS Office
Ability to travel up to 40% for fundraising events, including nights, weekends, and solo travel

Preferred

  • Experience with a health or human services nonprofit organization
  • Experience with Salesforce CRM, DonorDrive, or similar fundraising platforms
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments at all levels of an organization
