Position Summary

As a Server at Hawkers, you are more than an order-taker — you are a storyteller, brand ambassador, and the heartbeat of the guest experience. You will guide guests through our menu, share the Hawkers story, and create moments that turn first-time visitors into loyal regulars. This role demands genuine warmth, hustle, product knowledge, and a team-first mindset every single shift.

Requirements

Guest Experience & Service

  • Greet guests promptly and warmly upon seating, setting the tone for an exceptional dining experience from the first moment.
  • Share the story of Hawkers — our inspiration, our cuisine, and our method of service — in a way that feels natural and engaging, not scripted.
  • Guide guests through the menu with enthusiasm and genuine product knowledge; make confident, personalized recommendations.
  • Take food and beverage orders accurately and efficiently, entering them into the POS system without delay.
  • Deliver food and drinks from the bar and kitchen, ensuring every plate reaches the right guest promptly and correctly.
  • Check in with tables during their meal to ensure satisfaction, proactively resolve any concerns, and anticipate needs before guests have to ask.
  • Maintain clean and organized tables through proactive pre-bussing and attention to detail throughout the dining experience.
  • Enhance the guest experience through thoughtful recommendations of menu items, beverages, and specials.

Operations & Standards

  • Process payments accurately using the POS system; handle all acceptable forms of payment with security and professionalism.
  • Verify guest identification to ensure responsible alcohol service in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of your section throughout the shift, including all assigned opening, mid-shift, and closing side work.
  • Adhere to all OSHA and HACCP compliance standards; maintain or obtain a Food Handlers Certification.
  • Complete all required training courses, assessments, and ongoing development to stay current with menu changes and service standards.

Teamwork & Culture

  • Work positively and collaboratively with Server Assistants, kitchen staff, bartenders, and all team members, especially during high-volume periods.
  • Support fellow team members whenever possible — at Hawkers, we succeed together.
  • Uphold and embody Hawkers’ values of adventure, community, and genuine hospitality in every guest interaction.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Required

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to remain composed and accurate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Genuine passion for hospitality and creating memorable guest experiences.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain Food Handlers Certification.
  • Must be willing to obtain applicable alcohol service certification (e.g., TABC, RBS, or state equivalent) if not already held.
  • Success in this role requires genuine hospitality, urgency, adaptability, strong communication, and the ability to stay composed in a high-volume environment.

Preferred

  • 1+ years of prior serving experience in a full-service restaurant environment.
  • Familiarity with POS systems (Toast, Aloha, or similar).
  • Current alcohol service certification (TABC, RBS, or state equivalent).
  • Knowledge of or curiosity about Asian cuisine and culture.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to frequently stand, walk, bend, squat, and reach above shoulder level for the duration of a shift.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in a climate-controlled restaurant environment with periods of high noise and activity.
