Superintendent (LA & OC)
Los Angeles, CA Field Operations
Job Type
Full-time
Description

We’re looking for Superintendents who enjoy fast-paced commercial interiors, strong project teams, great clients, and the challenge of turning a set of drawings and a schedule into a finished space everyone is proud of.

You’ll lead the day-to-day field operations of commercial tenant improvement projects, working closely with Project Managers, clients, architects, building management, subcontractors, inspectors, and your field team.

You’re HBC’s frontline leader on the jobsite. That means owning the schedule, coordinating the trades, maintaining a safe and organized site, protecting quality, communicating with the project team, and solving the inevitable construction problems that show up between kickoff and punch.

The goal isn’t simply to finish the job. It’s to finish it safely, on time, at a high level of quality, and with a client and project team who would happily work with us again.

What You’ll Own

· Day-to-day field leadership and coordination of commercial tenant improvement projects

· Project schedules, sequencing, manpower, deliveries, access, and subcontractor coordination

· Jobsite safety, organization, and compliance with HBC and CAL-OSHA requirements

· Quality control and continuous inspection of work for conformance with plans and specifications

· Coordination with clients, building management, landlords, architects, engineers, inspectors, and project partners

· Daily communication with the Project Manager and project support team

· Plans, specifications, RFIs, submittals, bulletins, shop drawings, and other field documentation

· Weekly subcontractor foremen meetings and coordination

· City and other required project inspections

· Daily logs documenting manpower, progress, deliveries, inspections, approvals, delays, changes, incidents, and other project activity

· Field change requests and time-and-material tracking in coordination with the Project Manager

· Leadership and development of Assistant Superintendents, Laborers, and other assigned field personnel

· Punchlist, day-two work, turnover, and successful project completion

You’ll Probably Enjoy This Job If You…

· Like being in the field and want to be where the work is actually happening

· Can look several weeks ahead while still paying attention to what is happening on the jobsite today

· Know how to keep multiple trades moving without sacrificing safety or quality

· Can read a set of plans and quickly spot when something in the field doesn’t look right

· Deal with problems early instead of hoping they disappear on their own

· Are comfortable talking with everyone from a client or architect to a building engineer or trade foreman

· Understand that being firm and maintaining good relationships aren’t mutually exclusive

· Keep an organized jobsite because you know it usually leads to an organized project

· Take pride in quality and notice details other people might walk past

· Enjoy teaching and developing less-experienced field staff

· Stay composed when the schedule gets tight and construction decides to throw something unexpected at you

· Take the work seriously without taking yourself too seriously

· Get satisfaction from walking a completed space and knowing you helped lead the team that made it happen

What Success Looks Like

A successful HBC Superintendent delivers a project that is safe, organized, well-coordinated, on schedule, high quality, and ready for the client when we said it would be.

The subcontractors understand what is expected. The Project Manager knows what is happening in the field. Problems are identified early and communicated clearly. The client feels taken care of. And the field team knows someone is leading the project rather than simply watching it happen.

Most importantly, we finish with a client, design team, subcontractors, and coworkers who would happily work together again.

Because great Superintendents don’t just manage jobsites. They lead people, solve problems, protect relationships, and turn plans into finished spaces.
