Description

Under the supervision of the Lead Child Care Teacher, the Preschool Assistant Teacher assists the classroom teacher in setting up and implementing daily curriculum which promotes social, cultural, educational, physical and emotional growth. Additionally, the Assistant Teacher performs housekeeping chores as necessary and provides a quality experience to children that focuses on the YMCA values.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Has knowledge of and maintains NAEYC and DEEC standards.
  • Assists classroom teacher in implementing daily lesson/activity plans to support a developmentally appropriate curriculum, swim with children during pool time.
  • Greets parents and children and interacts with the children. Is aware of children’s safety at all times.
  • Makes and records observations of children.
  • Maintains classroom and equipment.
  • Change and feed children.
  • Supervise outdoor play, handwashing, toileting.
  • Is flexible to schedule changes.
  • Attends and participates in family nights, staff meetings, staff training, and YMCA special events.
  • Additional duties as required and assigned by a supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Meet educational and experience qualifications established by DEEC, NAEYC, and QRIS or are willing to work towards established qualifications.
  • At least 18 years of age or ability to obtain a worker permit. 
  • Must obtain, and keep current, certification in CPR, First Aid and Child Abuse Prevention. 
  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.


Schedule: Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. 

Job Type: Full-Time (Non-Exempt)
