Main Duties and Responsibilities


Position Summary:

The Logistics Coordinator is responsible for optimizing all freight-related decisions and carrier coordination activities to ensure cost-effective, compliant, and reliable delivery performance. This role owns freight planning, execution oversight, cost control, and exception management, ensuring alignment between production, warehouse, suppliers, and customers.

Safety:

  • Follow all Bender Inc. Safety Policies and Procedures, as well as the safety requirements of our customers where applicable. Immediate reporting of any safety violations or concerns.
  • Ensure all applicable regulatory standards are met with regards to loss prevention, accident investigation, OSHA compliance.  
  • Works with team members to actively improve safety of the plant.
  • Ensure safety action items are completed accurately and timely.

Quality:

  • Follow SOPs, works in accordance with product specification and work instructions to ensure minimization of defects. Fixes defects and reports issues if occurs. 
  • Assists quality and management in development of quality processes and work instructions. 
  • Work with team members to identify root cause to failures and implementation of corrective actions.

Productivity:

Freight Planning & Execution Control 

  • Manage all carrier quoting and booking activities for inbound and outbound shipments 
  • Select optimal transportation modes, routes, and carriers based on cost, service, and risk 
  • Coordinate with Shipping, Production, and Customer Service to ensure delivery alignment 

Freight Cost Management & Optimization 

  • Own freight cost control performance and ensure shipments align to expected pricing 
  • Perform daily freight audit and invoice validation 
  • Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities 
  • Support carrier rate negotiations and service agreements [JK1.1]

Exception Management & Issue Resolution 

  • Own end-to-end resolution of shipment exceptions including delays, rebooking, and claims 
  • Maintain visibility and communication on delivery issues 
  • Drive corrective actions to prevent recurrence 

Compliance & Documentation 

  • Ensure all domestic and international shipping documentation is complete and accurate 
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory and customer requirements 

Cross-Functional Coordination 

  • Act as the primary interface between carriers, warehouse, supply chain, and customer service 
  • Support delivery commitments and recovery actions impacting on-time delivery 

KPI Ownership & Reporting 

  • Provide regular reporting and analysis to leadership 
  • Accountable for meeting logistics KPI, including freight cost per shipment and exception rates

Marketing Support

  •       Coordinate trade show and event logistics
  •       Coordinate shipment of booths, literature, promotional items, and marketing material
  •       Maintain inventory of promotional items, printed material, booth materials and marketing materials
  •      Working with shipping on freight carriers

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify and implement improvements in freight cost, carrier performance, and reliability 
  • Participate in continuous improvement and operational initiatives 
  • Work with CI leaders on projects

Other Duties

Requirements


Educational and Experience Requirements

  • Associate degree in business management, logistics or finance preferred, Related work experience may be considered in lieu of education 
  • 5+ year experience – Shipping and Logistics
  • 2+ year experience in a manufacturing envoirnment
  • Computer skills required: MS Office; Shipping software i.e. World Ship, 3PL Shipping portals, etc.; ERP systems – entering information for Shipments (SAP a plus), CRM software
  • Ability to perform basic math
  • Ability to read a tape measure to 1/16”
  • Flexible with changing priorities and able to multitask efficiently.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is moderately active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing from time to time. The employee may lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This job requires extended amounts of time in front of a computer screen. 

Work Environment

  • This position is based primarily in an office environment. This position also spends time in the production area and warehouse areas with occasional offsite or outdoor settings, as required.
