The Fleet and Facilities Manager is responsible for the comprehensive maintenance and repair of our diverse fleet, which includes both landscaping and heavy excavation equipment. This role ensures all vehicles and machinery are maintained to the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity. The supervisor will lead a team of mechanics, manage maintenance schedules, control inventory, and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.
Compensation

Leadership
- Lead the Fleet & Facilities team, including mechanics, the Yard Supervisor, and yard team.
- Set daily and weekly priorities based on the operational needs of the company.
- Provide coaching, training, feedback, and accountability to team members.
- Conduct performance reviews and support hiring, onboarding, and development of team members.
- Establish clear expectations and measurable standards for fleet, shop, yard, and facility operations.
- Communicate proactively with company leadership and field teams regarding equipment availability, repairs, facility issues, and operational priorities.
Fleet Operations & Maintenance
- Manage daily fleet operations to maximize vehicle and equipment availability.
- Develop and maintain preventative maintenance programs with a target of 95%+ compliance.
- Oversee work orders, repair priorities, maintenance schedules, and repair documentation through the company's fleet maintenance management system.
- Monitor vehicle and equipment condition and proactively identify repair or replacement needs.
- Minimize equipment downtime through effective planning and prioritization.
- Ensure required vehicle and equipment inspections are completed and documented consistently.
- Maintain accurate fleet and equipment records within the company's fleet management system.
- Track utilization and help ensure equipment is appropriately allocated across the company.
- Support fleet lifecycle planning and capital replacement recommendations.
Shop Operations
- Manage the workflow and priorities of the internal maintenance shop.
- Assign and prioritize repairs based on operational needs, safety, and equipment availability.
- Ensure mechanics have the information, parts, tools, and resources needed to complete work efficiently.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe shop.
- Track repair turnaround time, repeat repairs, downtime, and maintenance costs.
- Coordinate outside repairs and specialized service when required.
Yard & Facilities Management
- Provide overall leadership and accountability for SLP's yard and facility operations.
- Direct and support the Yard Supervisor and yard team in their day-to-day responsibilities.
- Ensure the yard, buildings, shop, storage areas, and common areas remain clean, organized, safe, and operational.
- Establish standards for yard layout, material storage, equipment movement, signage, and general organization.
- Ensure materials and equipment can move efficiently through the yard to support field operations.
- Oversee the condition of buildings, grounds, gates, lighting, utilities, parking areas, storage areas, and other facility infrastructure.
- Identify facility maintenance and repair needs and establish priorities for completion.
- Coordinate facility-related work with internal teams and approved outside contractors as necessary.
- Support company events, seasonal changes, snow operations, and other facility-related operational needs.
- Partner with Purchasing & Procurement on material and supply needs. Purchasing and supplier management remain the responsibility of the Purchasing & Procurement function.
Asset, Telematics, Fuel & Cost Management
- Maintain accurate records of fleet and equipment assets.
- Monitor vehicle and equipment location, utilization, idle time, mileage, engine hours, fuel usage, and driver behavior through the company's telematics and GPS platform.
- Use fleet maintenance and telematics data to identify operating inefficiencies and implement corrective actions.
- Track maintenance cost per vehicle and equipment class.
- Track cost per mile and cost per equipment hour where applicable.
- Manage Fleet & Facilities expenses against established budgets.
- Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and capital planning.
- Identify opportunities to reduce operating costs without negatively impacting reliability or service.
- Ensure accurate and consistent use of fleet maintenance, GPS, and telematics systems across the department.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure vehicles, equipment, the shop, yard, and facilities operate in accordance with company safety standards.
- Ensure compliance with applicable DOT and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain required inspection, maintenance, and compliance documentation.
- Support accident and equipment-damage investigations and corrective actions.
- Ensure reported equipment or facility safety issues are prioritized and corrected.
- Work with company Safety and People Operations leadership on compliance-related matters.
- Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, and care for company assets.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in fleet maintenance and repair, with a strong emphasis on heavy equipment.
- Proven supervisory and leadership experience.
- Extensive knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance and repair, including hydraulic systems, diesel engines, and electrical systems.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in welding and fabrication.
- Familiarity with inventory management systems and budget control.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- Valid driver's license; CDL preferred.
- ASE certifications, particularly in heavy equipment, are highly desirable.
- Knowledge of DOT and EPA regulations.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift 50 lbs or more, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
Comfortable working outdoors in various conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
Availability Requirements
- Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM - 4:30 PM, weekends and extended hours as needed
