Initial Inspection Technician
Job Type
Full-time
Description

Be the First Set of Eyes on Every Vehicle. Catch It Before It Moves Forward.

At Holmes Motors, every vehicle has to start somewhere—and it starts with Initial Inspection.

We're looking for a hands-on Automotive Initial Inspection Technician who knows vehicles, notices the little things, and takes pride in getting the job done right. You'll be responsible for identifying mechanical, safety, and condition issues before a vehicle moves through the rest of our reconditioning process.

This isn't a position where you'll spend your day doing the same repair over and over. You'll inspect, diagnose, maintain, repair, document, and make sure each vehicle is ready for its next step.

What You'll Actually Do

As an Initial Inspection Technician, you'll:

  • Road-test vehicles on an established route to identify unusual noises, vibrations, drivability concerns, and other issues that need attention.
  • Put vehicles on a lift and perform a complete visual inspection, including the exterior, interior, undercarriage, and under the hood, looking for damage and missing, broken, or worn components.
  • Accurately document everything you find and identify/request parts needed to complete repairs.
  • Perform an oil change on every assigned vehicle and properly document the service.
  • Use diagnostic equipment to scan vehicles for warning codes when dashboard warning lights are present and record the results.
  • Replace tires and TPMS sensors when needed.
  • Balance tires after replacement or when diagnosing vibration concerns.
  • Inspect and replace worn or out-of-spec brake components as needed.
  • Check all running, driving, and exterior lights; replace failed bulbs/components and document deficiencies.
  • Perform a final check to verify all Initial Inspection work has been completed before releasing the vehicle.
  • Enter inspection findings and completed work into the Holmes Motors App
  • Route vehicles to the appropriate next department
  • Complete required paperwork and daily production/work logs
  • Assist with other day-to-day departmental responsibilities as assigned.
  • Make second keys as needed.

   What We're Looking For

You may be a great fit if you:

  • Have practical automotive mechanical knowledge and enjoy hands-on work.
  • Can recognize when something doesn't sound, feel, look, or operate correctly
  • Are comfortable performing basic maintenance and repair work.
  • Know how—or are able to learn how—to use automotive diagnostic equipment.
  • Pay attention to details and document your work accurately.
  • Understand that finding a problem is only part of the job—communicating it clearly matters too
  • Can work independently while also being part of a fast-moving automotive team.
  • Take pride in leaving a vehicle better than you found it.

Catch the problem. Document it. Fix what you can. Get the vehicle moving.

Position Requirements

Candidates must have a valid driver's license, be available to work a 40-hour workweek, have the hand tools necessary to perform assigned work, be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, and be able to work in varying temperatures and outdoor conditions when needed.

If you're the kind of person who hears a vibration and immediately wants to know why, notices the missing lug nut everyone else walked past, or can't stand sending unfinished work down the line...

We want to talk to you.
