Wellness Instructor - part time (hours will vary)
Pay Range: $16.21 - $24.28/hour
Our Wellness Instructors play a vital role in promoting health, well-being, and a positive lifestyle among our community members. We are seeking a passionate and motivated individual who is dedicated to inspiring others to achieve their wellness goals through engaging and effective programs.
The primary responsibility of the Wellness Instructor is to lead group exercise and aquatic classes, supervise one-on-one exercise sessions, provide lifeguarding and pool oversight, and assist the Wellness Director in developing and implementing comprehensive wellness programming. The Wellness Instructor promotes safe, engaging, and effective wellness opportunities that support the physical, social, and overall well-being of residents.
Qualifications:
· High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
· Two years of experience in wellness/fitness or a combination of education and experience in field.
· Knowledge of proper exercising technique according to industry standards as set forth by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).
· Experience instructing group/individual land and aquatic exercise preferred.
· CPR and First Aid certified or ability to attain.
· Current Lifeguard certification (American Red Cross or YMCA) or ability to attain.
· Strong customer service skills; maintain a hospitality approach when engaging all individuals.
- Assist residents with the proper and safe use of the Wellness Center and fitness equipment.
- Conduct one-on-one exercise and training sessions as assigned.
- Orient new residents to the Wellness Center, including proper equipment use, safety procedures, and available programming.
- Engage residents in wellness and fitness activities, make appropriate exercise recommendations, and provide instruction regarding proper exercise form and technique.
- Develop and implement individualized exercise programs based on each resident’s health status, fitness goals, needs, and limitations, while following industry standards and applicable American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) guidelines.
- Recognize when an exercise session should be modified, postponed, or discontinued based on a resident’s condition and respond appropriately.
- Promptly report notable resident safety, health, or wellness concerns to the Wellness Director.
- Teach high-quality group exercise classes that are varied, creative, enjoyable, safe, and effective.
- Provide clear verbal instruction, demonstrate proper form and technique, and follow established industry standards and ACSM guidelines.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and consistently demonstrate competency in group exercise instruction and one-on-one training.
- Assist the Wellness Director with the development and implementation of wellness programming and events.
- Offer creative and appropriate ideas for new wellness programs, classes, events, and activities.
- Ensure all educational and promotional materials are neat, accurate, professional, engaging, and clearly communicated.
- Maintain accurate and current pool records, including water temperature, pH, chlorine levels, and other required pool information.
- Complete required weekly pool and spa cleaning and maintenance checklists.
- Monitor inventory of pool and spa chemicals, cleaning supplies, toiletries, and locker room supplies and notify the Wellness Director when supplies need to be replenished.
- Maintain the safe operation of the pool and spa areas and continuously monitor residents using the pool or spa in accordance with established lifeguarding and safety standards.
- Properly maintain and monitor pump room equipment and chemicals in accordance with safety procedures.
- Enforce all pool and spa rules and regulations consistently and professionally.
- Monitor the cleanliness and appropriate use of locker room facilities.
- Restock toiletries and other necessary supplies as needed.
- Deliver used towels to the appropriate laundry or housekeeping department.
- Secure and lock the pool area at designated closing times.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized Wellness Center and work environment.
- Complete required weekly fitness equipment cleaning and maintenance checklists.
- Regularly inspect fitness equipment to ensure it is clean, safe, and in proper working order.
- Promptly report damaged, malfunctioning, or unsafe equipment to the Wellness Director and/or Maintenance Department and remove equipment from use when appropriate.
- Demonstrate sound judgment and maintain resident safety as a priority during all wellness, fitness, aquatic, and instructional activities.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures, as well as community standards and expectations.
- Attend and actively participate in required in-services, training sessions, meetings, and educational opportunities.
- Maintain all required training and certifications in accordance with federal and state regulations, company requirements, and community policies.
- Demonstrate a commitment to safety by following established safety rules and guidelines, maintaining good housekeeping practices, properly caring for equipment, and performing all job responsibilities in a safe and responsible manner.
- Demonstrate dependability, reliability, punctuality, and professionalism by reporting to work as scheduled and ready to perform assigned duties.
- Maintain a positive, welcoming, and service-oriented approach when interacting with residents, families, visitors, and team members.
