Description

Job Summary

The Custodian is responsible for performing a full range of cleaning, maintenance, and facility care duties to ensure a safe, organized, and sanitary work environment. This position works under the general supervision of the VP of Operations and collaborates with all departments to maintain cleanliness, orderliness, and operational efficiency.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Facility Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean and stock restrooms, break rooms, and conference rooms.
  • Wash windows, mirrors, and walls as needed.
  • Empty, clean, and sanitize waste receptacles and shredders.
  • Pick up papers, debris, and general waste throughout the facility.
  • Sweep and seal production floors to maintain cleanliness and safety.
  • Clean air vents and under production ovens as required.

Supplies & Inventory Management

  • Monitor, order, and replenish janitorial and break room supplies.
  • Retrieve and maintain shipping carton inventory, coordinating with the Purchasing Manager.

Outdoor Maintenance

  • Perform seasonal outdoor maintenance, including snow removal, salting, and shoveling.

Equipment & Support Tasks

  • Assist the Maintenance Department with equipment repairs and general responsibilities.
  • Identify and report building maintenance needs.
  • Manage production waste efficiently and in accordance with company policies.
  • Perform other production duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities but requires adherence to company policies, safety regulations, and leadership expectations when working with team members.

Skills & Competencies

  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to identify and address maintenance issues.
  • Ability to clean and maintain assigned areas and equipment properly.
  • Willingness to learn and use a variety of custodial equipment, supplies, and materials.
  • Ability to operate and perform minor maintenance on floor polishers, buffers, and vacuum cleaners.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Follow oral and written instructions accurately.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with team members across departments.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED preferred. 
  • One to three months of related experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions related to custodial and maintenance tasks.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to apply common sense and problem-solving skills to execute written and verbal instructions.
  • Capable of handling minor maintenance issues involving standard custodial procedures.

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach, handle objects, and use hands.
  • Must be able to talk and hear to communicate effectively.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • This position requires interaction with production team members, including exposure to moving production equipment.
Requirements

This is a Monday - Friday 6am to 2:30pm position. 

Good attendance, attention to detail, and ability to self direct is required.
