SUMMARY:
Donovan-Hill Group, Inc., is currently seeking an experienced Civil Engineering CADD Technician / CADD Designer to join our team in our Panama City, FL office. This position will support a diverse portfolio of municipal, land development, design-build, infrastructure, aviation, and other civil engineering projects.
The ideal candidate will be a highly proficient AutoCAD Civil 3D user with the ability to take survey information, engineering concepts, sketches, field data, and design criteria and independently develop accurate, professional, and construction-ready civil engineering drawings and plan sets.
This position requires strong civil engineering knowledge in addition to advanced CADD skills. The successful candidate will understand how civil infrastructure is designed and constructed and will be capable of identifying drawing conflicts, inconsistencies, and potential constructability issues.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
CADD & CIVIL DESIGN
- Develop complete civil engineering construction documents using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Create and manage surfaces, alignments, profiles, corridors, assemblies, feature lines, grading objects, pipe networks, and pressure networks.
- Develop existing and proposed ground surfaces, grading plans, drainage layouts, utility plans, roadway plans, profiles, sections, and details.
- Prepare plan/profile sheets, cross sections, typical sections, construction details, schedules, notes, legends, and complete plan sets.
- Process and incorporate survey data, points, field information, GIS data, aerial imagery, and existing-condition information.
- Perform earthwork and quantity calculations, surface analysis, volume comparisons, and material takeoffs.
- Utilize Civil 3D data shortcuts, styles, label styles, templates, Xrefs, Sheet Set Manager, and automated plan-production tools.
- Prepare accurate PDFs and other project deliverables for permitting, bidding, construction, and client review.
- Maintain organized project files and company CADD standards.
ENGINEERING & PROJECT SUPPORT
- Work closely with professional engineers, project managers, surveyors, contractors, inspectors, and other design professionals.
- Interpret engineering sketches, markups, specifications, calculations, survey information, and field data.
- Translate engineering concepts into accurate CADD drawings and construction documents.
- Coordinate civil drawings with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, environmental, geotechnical, and other disciplines as required.
- Assist engineers with design development, exhibits, quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, permitting documents, and revisions.
- Incorporate review comments, permitting agency requirements, field changes, and construction revisions.
- Prepare redlines, record drawings, and as-built documentation when required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Required
- 5+ years of professional civil engineering CADD/design experience, preferably with a civil engineering consultant, contractor, municipality, or design-build organization.
- Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school in computer aided drafting (CAD) design preferred
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Demonstrated ability to use Civil 3D for actual civil engineering design and construction-document production.
- Strong understanding of grading, drainage, utilities, roadways, profiles, sections, and civil construction documents.
- Ability to develop complete, accurate, and professional plan sets with limited supervision.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications, surveys, calculations, and construction documents.
- Excellent attention to detail and quality-control skills.
- Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet established deadlines.
Preferred
- Experience with municipal infrastructure and land development.
- Stormwater, drainage, water, sanitary sewer, lift station, and wastewater experience.
- Roadway, bridge, parking, sidewalk, and transportation experience.
- Aviation/airfield and MRO hangar experience.
- Marina or waterfront development experience.
- Design-build and contractor coordination experience.
- Florida permitting and familiarity with FDOT and local agency standards.
- Survey/CADD, GIS, GPS, or drone survey data experience.
- Experience with construction administration, field observations, redlines, and as-builts.
- Familiarity with Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and related engineering software.
