We are seeking an Employee Benefits Consultant to join Flood and Peterson. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced benefits professional who can build strong client relationships, provide strategic guidance, and support employers in developing effective employee benefits plans and programs.


In this role, you’ll work in partnership with Employee Benefits Advisors and Account Managers on new and existing client relationships. You’ll lead consulting engagements with employers regarding their employee benefits plans and programs and negotiate with benefit carriers and vendors to secure health and welfare plan coverage that supports each employer’s goals and workforce needs.


What You’ll Do

  • Manage Client Accounts: Oversee service delivery for assigned accounts to support profitability, growth, retention, and compliance with Flood and Peterson service standards, while coordinating roles and responsibilities across the client service team.
  • Lead Benefits Consulting Engagements: Lead client engagements related to benefit strategy, program initiatives, financial evaluations, plan design, renewals, benchmarking, business placement, and other client-specific studies.
  • Develop Strategic Benefits Solutions: Create sophisticated benefits design and renewal strategies, develop tools and solutions to address complex client issues, and support implementation of employee benefits programs.
  • Oversee Renewals, Marketing, and Carrier Negotiations: Lead renewal and marketing efforts, carrier selection, vendor and plan design recommendations, financial negotiations, underwriting and funding strategies, contract accuracy, and Annual Renewal/Marketing report summaries.
  • Support Business Development: Partner with Advisors on new business opportunities, account development, retention strategies, and identifying new lines of coverage for existing accounts.
  • Maintain Industry and Carrier Expertise: Operate autonomously in a variety of professional settings, stay current with carriers, strategic partners, products, services, and applicable legislation, maintain strong carrier relationships, and travel up to 50% of the time.

  What You Bring

  • Education and Work Experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred; six to eight years of related employee benefits experience and/or training required.
  • License and Certification Requirements: Current Colorado Life and Health Insurance License required; must actively pursue industry designations as needed to support the duties of the position; current Colorado driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record required.
  • Self-Funding Experience: Experience with self-funded and level-funded employee benefits plans, including funding arrangements, claims analysis, underwriting considerations, renewal strategy, and stop-loss coverage.
  • Relationship Building: Ability to develop strong relationships with clients, carriers, and internal team members.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present recommendations and explain complex benefits, financial, and compliance information clearly.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Ability to lead projects, manage priorities, work across teams, and drive successful client outcomes.

  • Compensation: Starting base pay for this exempt position is $95,000-$120,000 annually. Pay may exceed this range for well-qualified candidates, commensurate with experience. In addition to regular pay, this position is eligible to participate in our annual performance incentive program.
