Position Summary:

The Perioperative (OR) Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and coordinating patient care from admission to discharge. In addition, the Registered Nurse is responsible for the achievement of patient outcomes through implementing critical pathways and in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of the facility.


Key Results Areas (KRAs):

· Acting as an advocate for the patient before, during, and after surgery

· Monitoring and recording the patient's vitals pre-operation

· Preparing the surgical tools and materials that the surgical team will need during the operation

· Recording every aspect of an operation, including the names and titles of those performing the surgery, the tools used, the amount of anesthetic a patient received, and how long the surgery took

· Advising the surgical team on potential harm to the patient during surgery

· Assisting surgeons during the surgery if needed

· Escorting patients to the recovery room post-operation

· Cleaning the operating room post-operation

· Accounting for all tools used during the procedure

· Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  

Education & Experience:

· Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing. At least one year of OR circulator experience preferred

· Current state licensure to practice required

· Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90 days of employment required

o Current BLS/BCLS certification documentation

· Successful completion of ACLS Course within 90 days of employment required

o Documentation of current ACLS certification

· Successful completion of PALS Course within 90 days of employment required

o Documentation of current PALS certification, if requested by supervisor.

· Specialty certification in Perioperative Nursing recommended (CNOR) required
