LAC Federal is seeking an experienced and highly organized Legal Assistant III to provide professional legal, administrative, records, and litigation support to the Office of General Counsel (OGC) for a major federal agency. Working in a fast-paced federal legal environment, the Legal Assistant III will support attorneys and OGC personnel with front-office operations, scheduling, legal correspondence, document preparation, case files and records, legal review tracking, research and reference activities, data entry, and court or board submissions. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, discretion in handling sensitive information, strong customer-service skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and professionalism.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive administrative and legal support to GSA OGC attorneys and staff, including front-office, reception, telephone, visitor, correspondence, scheduling, and general office support.
- Maintain attorneys' calendars; schedule appointments, meetings, conferences, and conference calls; maintain suspense and deadline information; reserve meeting rooms; and coordinate meeting logistics.
- Prepare, format, proofread, edit, reproduce, and assemble legal correspondence, memoranda, reports, briefs, pleadings, exhibits, and other legal and administrative documents.
- Establish and maintain accurate physical and electronic case files, legal subject files, correspondence, and records in accordance with applicable Government file plans, records-management requirements, and security procedures.
- Prepare and assemble documents for legal filing, mailing, service, and submission to courts, boards, commissions, and agencies, including the U.S. District Court, U.S. Court of Federal Claims, boards of contract appeals, and Government Accountability Office, as applicable.
- Support OGC legal review and concurrence processes by circulating sensitive correspondence and other matters, tracking items through Government-designated systems, communicating with OGC divisions, maintaining tracking records, and preparing status reports.
- Conduct directed research and reference support using authorized resources, including files, databases, LexisNexis, Westlaw, GSA and OGC databases, and other Government-approved electronic resources.
- Perform accurate data entry and maintain information associated with workload, litigation matters, budgets, time and attendance, leave, travel, training, and other organizational records.
- Coordinate incoming and outgoing mail, correspondence, copying, printing, scanning, document reproduction, assembly, and distribution while protecting sensitive or privileged information.
- Provide travel and timekeeping support, including travel and lodging arrangements, cost comparisons, travel vouchers, and data entry into ConcurGov, HR Links, or other Government-designated systems, as assigned.
- Provide optional Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) administrative support when activated by the Government, including request intake and routing, records gathering, search documentation, file maintenance, tracking, redaction preparation, draft correspondence, and workload reporting.
- Safeguard Sensitive but Unclassified, procurement-sensitive, personally identifiable, proprietary, legal, and other protected information and comply with all Government confidentiality, security, records-management, and nondisclosure requirements.
Mandatory Qualifications
- At least 3 years of experience supporting federal litigation performing comparable duties
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Edge or comparable Government-authorized web browsers.
- Working knowledge of Google Workspace/Google Suite applications.
- Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat DC and/or Foxit PhantomPDF for document preparation and management.
- Ability to use electronic communication and collaboration tools such as Cisco Jabber and Government-designated systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and respond effectively to changing workload requirements.
- Ability to handle sensitive, confidential, procurement-sensitive, proprietary, and personally identifiable information appropriately.
- Ability to work on-site at a government-designated location in Washington, DC and support the required Government work schedule.
- Ability to successfully obtain and maintain the required Tier 1 suitability determination/Low-Risk Public Trust.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three or more years of progressively responsible legal assistant, legal secretary, paralegal, litigation support, or comparable professional administrative experience.
- Prior experience supporting attorneys or legal professionals within a federal agency, law firm, corporate legal department, or government contracting environment.
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in legal studies, paralegal studies, business administration, records/information management, criminal justice, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
- Experience preparing, formatting, proofreading, and quality-checking legal briefs, memoranda, pleadings, exhibits, correspondence, and other complex documents.
- Experience maintaining legal case files, electronic records, litigation files, or formal records-management systems.
- Familiarity with federal court, administrative board, commission, or agency filing procedures.
- Experience with legal research platforms such as Westlaw and/or LexisNexis.
- Experience with FOIA request processing, federal records management, eDiscovery, document review, or litigation support.
- Familiarity with federal systems such as ConcurGov, HR Links, or comparable Government travel, timekeeping, or administrative systems.
- Demonstrated success working in a customer-facing environment requiring professionalism, discretion, responsiveness, and frequent interaction with senior professionals, attorneys, Government officials, and members of the public.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to remain in a stationary position and perform computer-based work for extended periods, including frequent use of a keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other standard office equipment.
- Ability to occasionally move about the office and lift, carry, retrieve, or transport files, records, binders, and office materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to perform routine physical activities associated with an office and legal records environment, including reaching, bending, filing, scanning, copying, and accessing physical and electronic records, with or without reasonable accommodation.
