Description
The Ophthalmic Technician performs a range of duties which includes preparing the patient to see the Optometrist (preliminary exam, medical history & testing), preparation of examination and treatment rooms, performing basic and routine vision screening examinations, administering eye medications, cleaning and maintaining ophthalmic instruments and assisting during minor procedures.
Essential Functions:
- Acts as clinical assistant to Optometrist.
- Performs complete ophthalmic history and preliminary exams, sub-specialty tests (refraction, visual field test, color testing and contact lens evaluation etc.)
- Interviews patient to obtain and record medical history within the Athena electronic health record.
- Prepares patients for ophthalmology examination by dilating pupils, identifying changes in visual acuity, obtaining extraocular pressure, and obtaining blood pressure and communicates results to Optometrist.
- Maintains a safe, secure, and health work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures along with complying with legal regulations.
- Set up and prep for minor procedures, maintain stock of materials for exam rooms and procedures, follows industry and clinic standards for sterilization of instruments.
- Is familiar with standard concepts, practices, equipment and procedures within the field
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Basic Life Support Certification
- Proficiency in computers
- Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
- One year of previous ophthalmic technician experience (preferred)
- Experience with electronic health records (preferred)
Salary Description
20-25 per hour
