Position Summary

The Manufacturing Process Engineer II reviews project designs and fabrication drawings to determine efficient, practical manufacturing processes for PT&P products. This role designs jigs, fixtures, templates, and other tooling in AutoCAD and works directly on the fabrication floor with fitters, welders, and supervisors to implement process improvements. Serving as a bridge between Engineering and the shop floor, the position translates design intent into repeatable, cost-effective, and safe fabrication methods.

Key Responsibilities

Process & Manufacturing Improvement

  • Review project designs and fabrication drawings to determine the most efficient manufacturing process
  • Identify opportunities to simplify fabrication, improve fit-up, reduce labor, and increase production efficiency
  • Standardize fabrication processes and develop repeatable methods for high-volume or recurring products
  • Identify and implement improvements in quality, productivity, safety, and material utilization

Tooling & Fixture Design

  • Design and develop jigs, fixtures, templates, and other tooling for fabrication
  • Use AutoCAD to create and modify jig, fixture, and fabrication drawings
  • Coordinate the fabrication and implementation of jigs and fixtures

Collaboration & Floor Support

  • Work with fabrication personnel to test and improve tooling and manufacturing methods
  • Provide hands-on support to fitters, welders, and supervisors on the manufacturing floor
  • Work with Engineering to identify design changes that will make products easier and more cost-effective to manufacture
  • Troubleshoot fabrication and fit-up issues and develop practical solutions

Documentation

  • Maintain documentation for manufacturing processes, tooling, and fixtures
Requirements

Required:

  • Hands-on fabrication experience is required
  • Strong knowledge of welding, fit-up, fabrication, and shop processes
  • Proficient in AutoCAD
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering and fabrication drawings
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to design practical jigs and fixtures that can be built and used on the shop floor
  • Comfortable working directly with fitters, welders, supervisors, and production personnel
  • Must be willing to spend significant time on the fabrication floor, not solely in an office environment

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred
  • Experience with structural steel, pipe supports, pipe shoes, or similar fabricated products preferred

Key Competencies

  • Process improvement and lean manufacturing mindset
  • Practical, hands-on problem solving
  • Cross-functional collaboration with shop floor and engineering teams
  • Technical drawing and tooling design proficiency
  • Attention to detail in documentation and process standardization
