Job Summary: 


The Finance Director is responsible for managing the financial health of the mountain area, ensuring sound financial practices, and driving the organization toward financial stability and growth. This role oversees all aspects of financial planning, reporting, budgeting, and analysis, while providing strategic insight to senior management. The Finance Director plays a critical role in supporting both the day-to-day operations and long-term financial strategy of the mountain area, including the development of both winter and summer revenue streams.


Key Responsibilities:


Financial Planning & Strategy:

  • Develop and execute long-term financial strategies to support the business’s goals.
  • Work closely with the senior leadership team to align financial planning with the organization’s strategic vision.
  • Conduct financial forecasting and scenario analysis for different business initiatives (e.g., winter operations, summer activities, capital projects).

Budgeting & Reporting:

  • Lead the annual budgeting process, working with department heads to create realistic, data-driven budgets.
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to executive management and the board.
  • Oversee the preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).

Financial Management & Operations:

  • Monitor cash flow, capital, and debt levels to ensure liquidity and financial health.
  • Oversee payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and other day-to-day financial operations.
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations and other financial legal requirements.
  • Manage banking relationships and monitor lines of credit and loan agreements.

Cost Control & Revenue Maximization:

  • Identify and implement strategies for cost control and efficiency improvements.
  • Provide financial analysis for all revenue streams, including lift tickets, rentals, ski school, retail, food & beverage, and summer activities.
  • Analyze capital expenditures and assess the ROI of potential capital investments (e.g., new lifts, snowmaking systems, lodge renovations).

Audit & Risk Management:

  • Oversee external audits and implement recommendations to ensure financial accuracy and integrity.
  • Develop risk management strategies and insurance policies to safeguard the ski area’s assets.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead and mentor the finance team, ensuring strong performance in financial operations and reporting.
  • Collaborate with other departments to provide financial guidance and support for cross-functional projects.


Requirements

  

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field (MBA or CPA preferred).
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in finance, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of financial management, budgeting, forecasting, and accounting practices.
  • Experience in the hospitality, resort, or outdoor recreation industry is preferred.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with financial software and systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, or ERP systems).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to work in an office setting with some outdoor exposure during peak operations (e.g., winter season).
