Merchology seeks a Staff Accountant for our Finance team. Reporting to the Controller, the Staff Accountant plays a key role in contributing to the success of Merchology! 


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

A Staff Accountant will: 

  • Prepare and maintain timely and accurate balance sheet reconciliations, including variance analysis and resolution of reconciling items.
  • Assist with the monthly close process, including preparation of journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, and supporting schedules. 
  • Prepare and post recurring and adjusting journal entries, including supporting documentation.
  • Assist with preparation and review of monthly financial statements and management reports.
  • Analyze account activity and investigate unusual or unexpected variances, escalating issues as appropriate.
  • Assist with year-end audit activities, including preparation of account reconciliations, schedules, supporting documentation, and responses to audit requests.
  • Assist with maintaining accounting documentation and internal controls.
  • Review and reconcile Company banking and credit card transactions.
  • Provide backup support for AR and AP functions, including customer collections, cash application, invoice processing, and other duties as needed.
  • Assist other departments with ad hoc accounting and reporting requests.
  • Prepare and file sales tax returns and assist with related reconciliations and compliance requirements.
  • Participate in special projects and perform other accounting duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • 2-5 years of experience in an accounting position.
  • Bachelor's or associate degree in accounting or related field.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and fundamental accounting principles. 
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze account activity and identify discrepancies. 
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines. 
  • Collaborative and professional interpersonal skills. 
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to work with formulas, PivotTables, and large datasets.
  • Experience with NetSuite or another ERP/accounting system preferred.

  • Remote hybrid role: Three days onsite and two days remote following training - there is no option for fully remote work

Salary Description
$60,000 - $70,000
