Position Overview

American Innovations is seeking an accomplished and hands-on Assistant Controller to support its expanding finance organization. Reporting directly to the Controller and partnering closely with the CFO, this role will be instrumental in strengthening daily accounting operations, enhancing financial reporting, and preparing the company for continued growth. This position is based in Austin and follows a hybrid schedule with three days per week in the office.


Key Responsibilities

  • Own the close and produce clean, audit-ready financials monthly.
  • Drive compliance to SaaS-related accounting, including revenue recognition and deferred revenue management
  • Lead the development of audit-ready PBC schedules and serve as a primary liaison with external auditors. Must be familiar with QoE audits
  • Build/maintain the deferred revenue waterfall and rev rec memos.
  • Anticipate adjustments, normalize EBITDA add-backs, revenue quality issues like customer concentration or churn embedded in deferred revenue, and one-time items.
  • Ability to defend the numbers, being able to explain why a number is what it is under pressure and produce the supporting schedules fast
  • Collaborate with the Controller and CFO on process improvements, system enhancements, and scaling accounting workflows for a growth-stage environment
  • Strengthen internal controls and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Manage general ledger activities, month end close processes, and account reconciliations
  • Prepare and review financial statements, supporting documentation and variance analysis
  • Support annual audits and ensure adherence to GAAP and internal control standards
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior accounting staff
Requirements

  

Qualifications

  • 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Experience within SaaS or subscription-based business models
  • Background working in growth-stage or rapidly scaling companies
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains)
  • Demonstrated experience preparing for audits and producing PBC schedules
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and internal control frameworks
  • Highly hands-on, organized, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • CPA required
