Job Summary:  The Varsity Boys Track & Field Coach leads the varsity boys track and field program in a manner that reflects the mission, vision, and Christian values of the school. The coach serves as both an athletic instructor and a spiritual leader, using the track and field program as a platform for discipleship, character development, teamwork, and competitive excellence. The coach works in close partnership with the Varsity Girls Head Track & Field Coach to promote a unified and collaborative track and field program. 


Athletics & Program Leadership 

  • Plan and lead varsity boys track and field practices, competitions, and team activities.
  • Provide instruction in track and field fundamentals, conditioning, technique, strategy, and sportsmanship appropriate for varsity-level competition.
  • Coordinate training and athlete development across applicable running, jumping, and throwing events.
  • Partner with the Varsity Girls Head Track & Field Coach to coordinate practices, meets, coaching resources, equipment, and overall program needs.
  • Collaborate with assistant and event coaches to provide appropriate instruction and supervision for student-athletes.
  • Foster a team culture rooted in discipline, perseverance, respect, accountability, teamwork, and servant leadership.
  • Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, travel, and school-sponsored activities.
  • Ensure a safe, organized, and positive athletic environment.

Spiritual Leadership & Discipleship 

  • Model a growing personal faith in Jesus Christ and Christ-centered conduct in all interactions.
  • Integrate Biblical principles such as humility, integrity, perseverance, respect, and servant leadership into coaching practices.
  • Lead or participate in team devotionals, prayer, and faith-based discussions as appropriate.
  • Encourage student-athletes to grow spiritually, emotionally, and relationally, recognizing athletics as a ministry opportunity.
  • Support the school’s Statement of Faith, mission, and values through word and example.

Administration & Budget Oversight 

  • Collaborate with the Athletic Director and Varsity Girls Head Track & Field Coach on scheduling, program goals, meet participation, and seasonal planning.
  • Develop and manage the varsity boys track and field budget in alignment with athletic department guidelines while coordinating shared program needs with the Varsity Girls Head Track & Field Coach.
  • Monitor and submit budget requests for equipment, uniforms, meet expenses, travel, and other program needs.
  • Maintain appropriate records related to team rosters, meet entries, results, and program activities.
  • Ensure responsible stewardship of school resources and timely communication regarding expenditures.

Program & School Alignment 

  • Maintain compliance with school policies, league regulations, meet requirements, and state athletic association rules.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with student-athletes, parents, officials, coaches, and school staff.
  • Coordinate athlete entries and participation in scheduled meets and postseason competition.
  • Work collaboratively with the Varsity Girls Head Track & Field Coach to maintain consistency, communication, and unity across the overall track and field program.
  • Represent the school positively at all practices, competitions, events, and public activities.
  • Partner with school administration and teachers as needed to support student success.

Student-Athlete Eligibility Expectations 

  • Enforce and support eligibility requirements related to academics, behavior, attendance, and conduct.
  • Encourage student-athletes to prioritize academic responsibilities, personal character, and responsible team participation.
  • Assist with athlete evaluations, event placement, varsity participation, and end-of-season reviews.
  • Address discipline or eligibility concerns in a manner consistent with school policy and Biblical principles of accountability and restoration.
Requirements
  •  A personal, active faith in Jesus Christ and agreement with the school’s Statement of Faith.
  • Required: New Mexico state coaching credential, 7-12 Athletic Coach Licensure.
  • Prior track and field coaching experience at the high school, club, or equivalent level preferred.
  • Strong understanding of track and field rules, training principles, event techniques, conditioning, and athlete development.
  • Ability to mentor and disciple high school-aged students through athletics.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, collaboration, and team-building skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with the Varsity Girls Head Track & Field Coach, assistant coaches, and event-specific coaches.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries and uphold Christian standards of conduct.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Successful completion of background checks and required training.

Physical Requirements 

  • Ability to stand, walk, run, and actively engage for extended periods during practices and competitions.
  • Ability to demonstrate or assist with track and field drills, conditioning activities, and event techniques as appropriate.
  • Ability to lift, carry, set up, and manage athletic equipment as needed.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions associated with the track and field season.

Commitment 

  • Full attendance at practices, meets, meetings, and school-required athletic events throughout the season.
  • Participation in pre-season preparation, postseason responsibilities, and athletic department meetings as assigned.
  • Commitment to working collaboratively with the Varsity Girls Head Track & Field Coach to support the success of the overall track and field program.
  • Commitment to athlete safety, development, sportsmanship, and competitive excellence.
  • Commitment to uphold the mission of the school through athletics as a ministry.
