Location: Pastoral Ministry Center

Work Schedule: M-F 20 hours/week, evenings and weekends as needed

Position type: Part-time 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt


Summary: The Wellness Ministry Director promotes the dignity of the human person through awareness, education, and ministry. The Ministry Director represents the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church integrating in a “pastoral de conjunto” to serve the multicultural pastoral needs of children, youth, young adults, adults, persons with disabilities and seniors. The Director is responsible for the vision and strategy of ministry in the following subject areas: Catholic healthcare, Mental Health ministry, and bereavement and healthcare facilities. The Ministry Director works with the Department staff and volunteers to accomplish tasks according to the direction and priorities of the Archbishop, the Moderator of the Curia, and Department Head. 


Requirements

Position Responsibilities:

• *Build and maintain relationships with hospital staff, chaplains, and healthcare facilities across the Archdiocese

• *Create and implement a comprehensive program to recruit, train and assist new volunteers for hospital ministry.

• *Develop structure for regular and emergency pastoral visits to those hospitalized. 

• *Work with clergy to assist in offering the Anointing of the Sick to patients. 

• Aim to bridge parish and patient in a model of evangelization.

• Build relationships with pastors, parish staff, and ministry leaders to establish parish-based wellness ministries suited to each parish/deanery’s context.

• *Support, train, and accompany lay leaders to lead wellness ministries within their own parishes and/or at the deanery level.

• Meet regularly with ministry leaders to provide support, encouragement, training, and direction.

• *Provide resources and recommendations to clergy, chaplains, and parishes related to mental health.

• Build and sustain relationships with community organizations engaged in health, disability, and elder care to expand the reach of parish-based wellness ministry.

• Develop and maintain national, regional, and local partnerships relevant to wellness ministry.

• Stay current on magisterial communications from the Church and coordinating bodies (e.g., The Magisterium, USCCB, TCCB) relevant to chaplaincy and mental health ministry. 

• Remain informed of gatherings and activities, internal and external, pertaining to this role.

• Collaborate with the Department to develop content supporting events and initiatives focused on wellness-specific content, in partnership with Catholic Charities of San Antonio where relevant, in support of USCCB campaigns on healthcare, bioethics, mental health, and disability outreach.

• *Meet regularly with the Associate Director of Life and Social Justice to report on the status of wellness ministry

• Attend department meetings as required.

• Participate in task force efforts to help create annual goals and objectives and evaluate ministry programs and events.

• *Work with department leadership to prepare the ministry's budget, including planning, tracking expenses, and reporting.

• Help ensure the mission, vision, and priorities of the Archdiocese are communicated and carried out effectively and collaboratively

• Adhere to safety training and protocols daily and taking precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.   

• Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.

• Adhere to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory.

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Education

o Master’s degree in Theology, Pastoral Ministry, Church Leadership and/or Business Administration, Non-Profit Management or comparable field.

• Experience

o Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in program development and evaluation, project management, with at least 3 years of experience in pastoral care and management. 

o Must be a Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church;

• License and Credentials

o Reliable transportation

o Valid driver license

o Valid vehicle insurance

Minimum Knowledge and Skills: 

• Bi-lingual in English and Spanish preferred;

• Leadership experience including team-building, coaching, and strategic planning; 

• Strong management skills with ability to support, lead, motivate, and evaluate employees and initiatives;

• Extensive working knowledge of Catholic Church teachings and related papal, council, USCCB and pastoral letter documents;

• Experience with computer software, thorough proficiency of Microsoft Office Suite and social media.  Other publishing programs preferred.

• A solid grasp on critical thinking and problem solving in context of the mission of the archdiocese;

• Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team;

• Must have good written and verbal skills;

• Unwavering commitment to quality programs and excellence in organizational and project management with the ability to achieve strategic objectives while managing a budget;

• Ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders with impeccable integrity;

• Strong analytical skills, basic business intuition, and prudential judgment;

Travel Requirements:

Travel requirements for the position includes up to 50% local and 2% overnight.
