Texas Biomed is seeking an HVAC Technician who prefers a more favorable work/life balance, predominantly day shift only, the opportunity for a 4-10 workweek, a more consistent daily work schedule, and report to the same work site every day. Our team supports an entire biomedical research campus, and we seek an ambitious candidate who can help expand our facilities department capabilities while he/she has opportunities to grow their HVAC and mechanical skills. You will perform routine and intermediate level maintenance tasks utilizing skills to diagnose problems, make repairs and/or replace worn or defective parts on building mechanical systems, machines, biocontainment and HVAC equipment. Will be required to satisfactorily complete an SRA Federal background check.
The Role:
- Apply HVAC knowledge and training at an experienced apprentice level
- Must be able to diagnose motors, remove, and replace
- Knowledge of basic controls: thermostats, contactors, transformers, and safety switches
- Ability to identify and isolate refrigerant leaks
- Make emergency repairs and adjustments on equipment and serve on Emergency Response Team
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on variations of HVAC equipment (RTUs, Chillers, Boilers, etc..). Change and adjust belts optimally. Experience performing, documenting and recording voltage, amperage, and resistance.
- Support rotational 24/7 “on-call” duty for one week approximately every 8-10 weeks
- Must have hand dexterity to operate tools, able to climb stairs, carry and climb 12’ ladder, ability to step over plumbing and equipment, lift 50 pounds, work inside or outside, pass physical challenge test
Our Ideal Candidate:
- Candidate must be able to pass a federal background check to access mechanical rooms where systems are housed to maintain laboratory research support equipment
- Requires a high school diploma or GED with advanced certification and/or licensing obtained in a technical field
- Requires HVAC repair and maintenance experience and experience with mechanical piping; HVAC application training
- Acumen to learn advanced maintenance skills pertaining to chillers, boilers, biocontainment mechanical systems, and building automation systems
- Self-managed individual with high initiative to increase skill level and advance. Must be proactive, have positive team outlook, and strong work ethic
- EPA certification
- Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming and installation experience a plus
- Requires Texas Operators Driver’s License with good driving record
