Job Summary (Essential Functions):

  

The Head Golf Professional is responsible for the leadership and execution of the daily Golf Operations at Island Country Club. Working closely with the Director of Golf, the Head Golf Professional oversees the Golf Shop, professional staff, tournament operations, handicap administration, tee-sheet management, member programming, player development, Outside Operations, and the overall member and guest experience. The position serves as a key operational leader and is expected to provide visible, professional, and service-driven leadership while developing staff, maintaining operational standards, and supporting the strategic direction established by the Director of Golf.

  

Education and/or Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Sports Management, Professional Golf Management, or a related field preferred.

• Minimum of five years of progressive experience as a golf professional, preferably within a high-end private club environment.

• Previous supervisory or leadership experience strongly preferred.

• PGA Class A Member in good standing with the PGA of America required.

• Demonstrated experience in tournament operations, staff management, member service, handicap administration, golf instruction, and daily golf operations.


Licenses and Special Requirements:

• PGA Class A-1 classification or otherwise meets PGA criteria for a Head Golf Professional.

• Must be visible, easily approachable, professional, and proactive in nature.

• Valid driver’s license and ability to safely operate a golf cart.

Job Tasks/Duties:

  • Leads and manages the daily Golf Operations, ensuring a consistent, first-class member and guest experience.
  • Supervises, schedules, trains, mentors, and evaluates Golf Professional staff, Golf Shop associates, seasonal assistants/PGM interns, Outside Operations, and Locker Room staff.
  • Establishes daily staff priorities, delegates responsibilities, and provides visible leadership throughout the operation.
  • Coordinates and executes major Club events, including Member-Guests, Club Championships, Member-Members, one-day events, MGA/WGA competitions, and other Club tournaments.
  • Oversees tournament administration, scoring, Golf Genius setup, event communications, results, prize/credit-book accuracy, and post-event documentation.
  • Oversees ForeTees/tee-sheet administration, pace of play, player assistance, course access, and daily play management.
  • Administers the Club’s handicap program in accordance with USGA/WHS requirements and assists members with Rules of Golf and Club policies.
  • Coordinates men’s, women’s, junior, instructional, and player-development programming in partnership with the Director of Golf and Teaching Professionals.
  • Supports Golf Shop merchandising and inventory control, including procedures, physical counts, special orders, club repair records, and retail service standards.
  •  Works with the Club’s accounting office to ensure golf services, tournament charges, payroll information, and member billing are accurate and timely.
  • Maintains and updates golf-related software and operational records, including Golf Genius, ForeTees, GHIN, EZLocator, the Club website, and other systems as assigned.
  • Oversees opening and closing procedures and ensures the Golf Shop, practice facilities, Outside Operations, and Locker Rooms are properly staffed and prepared.
  • Partners closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and other department heads regarding course setup, maintenance schedules, tournament preparation, weather decisions, and member communication.
  • Provides golf instruction, club fitting, starter/player-assistance duties, and other professional services as needed.
  • Maintains appropriate visibility with the membership and plays golf with members regularly to strengthen relationships and understand member needs.
  • Supports Golf Committee preparation and communication as assigned by the Director of Golf.
  • Maintains Club historical records, trophies, plaques, and tournament documentation as appropriate.
  • Participates in PGA Section activities, continuing education, networking, and professional development.
  •  Performs other appropriate duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Golf.

Physical Demands:

  • Sufficient stamina to tolerate hot, cold, humid and rainy outdoor weather for several consecutive hours.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements typical of this position, including frequent standing, lifting, bending, climbing, stooping and pulling and repetitive motions.
