JOB SUMMARY: This position implements a therapeutic program as prescribed by an occupational therapist for inpatients, outpatients, and home health patients.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implement the plan of care and administer treatment to patients in accordance with occupational therapist orders, and accepted standards of professional practice.
- Provide individual treatments for activities of daily living (ADL).
- Develop treatment plan in collaboration with patient, family support system and members of health care team.
- Complete treatment plan to meet regulatory guidelines.
- Incorporate plans for discharge in treatment plan in collaboration with patient and support system.
- Maintain complete and accurate records pertinent to patient treatment and progress to assure proper documentation and to be in regulatory compliance.
- Document accurate and ongoing assessments of patient status that reflect interventions, patient responses, patient teaching, and status of outcomes at discharge.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with other health team members regarding patient condition, patient satisfaction needs and recommendations for meeting identified outcomes.
- Identifies and recognizes abnormal symptoms/changes in patient condition, established priorities, and takes appropriate action. Appropriately report condition changes to medical provider.
- Promote and ensure patient and staff safety in all aspects of responsibilities.
- Administer treatments and procedures in a timely and safe manner according to physician orders, including appropriate performance of standard precautions, using two patient identifiers, and performing patient risk assessments every shift.
- Utilize proper body mechanics, transfer/lifting techniques to minimize fall risk to patient and injury to self.
- Use National Patient Safety Goals (for critical access hospitals) to ensure patient safety.
- Implement infectious disease controls as appropriate including isolation procedures, proper use of hand washing and gloves.
- Follow proper procedures for wasting narcotics and disposal of sharps and hazardous materials.
- Follow HIPAA regulations and ensures that the confidentiality of patients’ medical, personal, and financial records; employee records; and organizational records is maintained.
- Comply with federal and state regulatory requirements related to the performance of GCH operations and requirements of the GCH compliance program.
- Present self in a professional manner. Enhance professional growth and development through educational opportunities relevant to the job, as well as reading and/or contributing to current literature.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
- Current/Active Certification as Occupational Therapist Assistant to practice in the State of Iowa
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
