Hinman, Howard & Kattell, LLP is seeking two experienced residential real estate paralegals to join our Binghamton office. This is a full-time position working 37.5 hours per week and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience supporting residential real estate transactions and be comfortable managing matters from file opening through closing and post-closing. This position requires excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to communicate professionally with clients and other transaction participants.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with residential real estate transactions from initial file opening through closing and post-closing.
- Draft and review purchase and sale agreements, correspondence, closing documents, memoranda, and related materials.
- Prepare residential mortgage closing packages, including closing statements and other required documents.
- Communicate directly and professionally with clients, attorneys, real estate agents, lenders, title companies, and other parties.
- Coordinate and schedule closings.
- Track contract contingencies, closing requirements, critical deadlines, escrow obligations, and attorney calendars.
- Proofread documents and confirm that they are complete, accurate, and properly prepared for recording with the appropriate County Clerk.
- Coordinate the recording of documents, disbursement of funds, and completion of post-closing requirements.
- Review and organize closing documents and maintain accurate electronic and physical files.
- Open new matters, prepare file folders, and manage files throughout the transaction.
- Research and respond to inquiries and requests for information.
- Assist with additional projects and responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
- At least two years of experience as a real estate paralegal, with substantial experience handling residential real estate transactions.
- Knowledge of the residential real estate process, including contract preparation, title review, closing documentation, recording requirements, and post-closing procedures.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and related office technology.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple matters, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with attorneys and other team members.
