Job Summary:
The OR RN is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation, and evaluation with consideration of the aging process, human development stages, and cultural diversity. Assists in the care and preparation of surgical patients. Is competent to perform duties as scrub nurse, circulating nurse and post anesthesia room nurse as assigned. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supports, role models and promotes an environment conducive with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital and in accordance with the Service Excellence Standards of Behavior
- Delivers nursing care according to the standards of care defined within the Illinois Nurse Practice Act
- Provides ongoing direction to the non-professional Surgical Staff assisting in direct patient care to meet the workload needs of the unit through an initiative-taking team approach.
- Promotes a therapeutic relationship with patients and families.
- Collects and documents pertinent health data using appropriate assessment techniques using a systematic and ongoing process utilizing interventions appropriated for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Analyzes and documents diagnoses/patient problems in a manner that facilitates the determination of expected outcomes and plan of care in collaboration with patients, significant others, and other health care personal.
- Makes clinical decisions and sets priorities related to workload management based on clinical knowledge and individual patient needs.
- Gives appropriate pre-operative and post-operative instructions to patients and significant others.
- Prepares surgical suites as required for specific procedures.
- Assists with cleaning and preparation of surgical suites between cases.
- Performs conscious sedation under the guidance of technically credentialed physicians after completion of required competencies.
- Cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization.
- Utilizes ongoing assessment data and notifies physician/surgeon of changes in patient’s condition in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Is flexible and available for an on-call schedule.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patients, hospital, or physician related information
- Maintain orderly condition of assigned work area.
- Is knowledgeable of general hospital and department specific policies and procedures.

- Ability to utilize the nursing process in provision of nursing care including but not limited to administering treatments and medications, interpreting diagnostic tests, formulating a plan of care, collaborating with other health care providers, and providing education to patients and/or significant others.

Professional Requirements:
- Completes and maintains all required education and/or training requirements.
- Complies with HIPAA regulations and always maintains patient confidentiality.
- Follows and maintains all lawful safety, health requirements, and regulations, and follow protocols for required protective equipment (PPE).
- Promptly reports safety issues, job-related injury, or illness, near misses, etc. in SafetyZone.
- Follows Hillsboro Health Standards of Behavior.
Education and/or Experience:
- Graduate of accredited school of professional nursing
- Ability to pass specific competencies for this position.
- Proficient oral and written communication
- 1 year hospital surgical experience helpful
Certificates and Licenses:
- Hold and maintain RN Illinois Licensure
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required or willing to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required or willing to obtain within 90 Days of hire.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required or willing to obtain within 90 Days of hire.
