Position Summary
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial operations of a dynamic energy organization through accurate accounting, financial reporting, and compliance activities. This role will assist with month-end close, account reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, and financial analysis while ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies. The ideal candidate has accounting experience within the energy, oil and gas, midstream, power, or energy services industry and possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
· Prepare and post monthly journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
· Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
· Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
· Perform bank, balance sheet, and intercompany account reconciliations.
· Analyze financial results and investigate variances between actual and budgeted performance.
· Prepare supporting schedules and workpapers for financial reporting and audits.
· Assist with fixed asset accounting, depreciation, and asset tracking.
· Support revenue, lease, joint interest billing (JIB), and production accounting functions, as applicable.
· Assist in the preparation of regulatory, tax, and compliance reporting requirements.
· Collaborate with operations, land, engineering, procurement, and business teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.
· Support internal and external audits by providing requested documentation and analysis.
· Ensure compliance with internal controls, SOX requirements (if applicable), and accounting policies.
· Identify process improvements and opportunities for automation within accounting functions.
· Participate in annual budgeting and forecasting activities.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
· 2-5 years of accounting experience
· Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
· Experience with account reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger accounting.
· Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial analysis tools.
· Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
· Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
· Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
· Public accounting experience preferred.
· CPA certification or active pursuit of CPA designation.
· Experience in the energy, oil & gas, midstream, renewable energy, power generation, or energy services industry.
· Experience with ERP systems.
· Familiarity with joint interest billing, production accounting, lease accounting, or revenue accounting processes.
· Experience working in a SOX-controlled environment.
