The Portfolio Manager, Business Lending is responsible for managing and monitoring assigned commercial, business banking, and SBA loan relationships to support strong portfolio performance and proactive credit risk management. This role assists with day-to-day portfolio administration, including past due management, risk rating review, loan renewals and modifications, client and Relationship Manager communication, construction loan disbursement oversight, and special assets support. The Portfolio Manager serves as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders and helps ensure portfolio matters are addressed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Expected Outcomes: The Portfolio Manager is expected to support the continued performance, quality, and risk management of the Business Lending loan portfolio through proactive monitoring, timely follow-up, and effective communication with clients, Relationship Managers, and internal stakeholders. This role is responsible for identifying early warning indicators of credit deterioration, ensuring portfolio matters are addressed before they become more significant issues, and providing accurate reporting to senior management regarding portfolio trends, metrics, and overall performance. The Portfolio Manager should contribute to efficient portfolio administration, timely completion of renewals and modifications, and effective resolution of credit or servicing concerns.

- Manage, service, monitor, and troubleshoot an assigned portfolio of Business Banking, Commercial, and SBA loans.
- Proactively monitor portfolio performance to identify potential credit concerns, risk rating changes, past due issues, and other early warning indicators before loans become troubled assets.
- Facilitate client discussions regarding current financial performance, business trends, and other developments that may impact credit quality or loan performance.
- Ensure loan renewals, extensions, and modifications are completed accurately and in a timely manner; monitor maturing loan reports to ensure appropriate action is taken prior to maturity.
- Develop and execute relationship strategies for assigned special assets loans to maximize repayment, recovery, and risk mitigation, including support for litigation, liquidation, and other resolution activities.
- Oversee assigned construction loan monitoring activities, including review of project progress, budget status, draw requests, and related documentation to help ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget.
- Prepare and provide portfolio reporting to senior management, including updates on portfolio performance, trends, risk indicators, and other key metrics.
- Coordinate with internal departments to resolve servicing, documentation, collateral, reporting, or credit administration matters affecting assigned loans.
- Facilitate submission of SBA purchase packages for guaranteed loans in accordance with applicable SBA requirements.
- Support audits, reviews, and examinations by facilitating the timely submission of requested files, records, and supporting documentation.
- Maintain effective working relationships with clients, Relationship Managers, co-workers, vendors, and other internal and external stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the Business Lending portfolio is monitored, administered, and managed in an efficient, accurate, and timely manner.
What we are looking for...
- Minimum of 3–5 years of portfolio management experience in business banking, commercial lending, or a related credit administration role.
- Experience managing or supporting special assets, criticized/classified loans, loan workouts, or other higher-risk credit relationships preferred.
- Working knowledge of SBA lending requirements, governmental reporting obligations, and applicable banking regulations preferred.
- Experience with commercial construction loan administration, including draw monitoring, project documentation, and budget tracking, preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook required; ability to learn and effectively use loan systems, reporting tools, and internal workflow applications.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and follow-up discipline required.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, work under pressure, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced lending environment.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the initiative to troubleshoot issues and recommend practical solutions.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate professionally with clients, Relationship Managers, senior management, and internal business partners.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant lending experience.
