Transportation Manager
Description

We're  a nonprofit organization looking for a Transportation Manager to lead  our fleet and driver team. This role works closely with both sales and  operations to make sure clothing donation pickups happen on time and in  full. It's a hands-on leadership position — you'll be managing drivers,  handling dispatch and routing, reporting on status, and solving problems  day to day, with regular check-ins with management. You'll also help  build out better processes in operations to improve service quality and  get ahead of issues before they happen.

You should have solid  routing experience, strong communication and people skills, and be  comfortable jumping in to run a route yourself when needed. You'll  oversee up to 30 drivers and 35 vehicles (Sprinter vans and box trucks).

What you'll do:

  • Supervise drivers and transportation staff
  • Make sure drivers are working safely, productively, and the right way
  • Handle vehicle licensure, registration, and DOT documentation alongside our Safety Coordinator
  • Keep track of licensure and training for all fleet members
  • Manage the full employee lifecycle for the team — timekeeping, staffing, performance reviews
  • Screen, interview, hire, and train new drivers
  • Set up random box inspections and keep an eye on missed stops
  • Keep company vehicles maintained
  • Monitor our GPS tracking system daily
  • Adjust and optimize routes as needed
  • Cover routes when drivers are out or on vacation
  • Install cameras at sites as needed
  • Find ways to cut costs and improve efficiency
  • Manage safety and legal incidents — accidents, police reports, follow-up, and court appearances if needed
  • Ride along with drivers periodically
  • Keep our site database up to date
  • Run safety meetings with drivers weekly or monthly
