Description
The High-Voltage Component Design Release Engineer (DRE) is responsible for the development, integration, validation, and production release of multiple high-voltage electrical components. Components may include traction inverters, power distribution units, DC/DC converters, onboard chargers, and other high-voltage devices used within Workhorse vehicle platforms.
The DRE will manage components throughout the full automotive development lifecycle, from requirements definition and supplier sourcing through validation, production launch, and field support.
Responsibilities
- Own the design, development, validation, integration, and release of assigned high-voltage components
- Develop, maintain, and refine technical and functional component requirements
- Lead technical evaluations and support supplier selection and sourcing activities
- Manage supplier engineering, design, manufacturing, validation, and production-readiness activities
- Develop and maintain component timing plans, validation plans, and engineering deliverables
- Track and report component development status, production readiness, validation progress, risks, and open issues
- Review supplier designs, drawings, specifications, test reports, and technical documentation
- Collaborate with mechanical engineering, packaging, thermal, electrical architecture, and vehicle integration teams to package and integrate components
- Support prototype, mule, design-validation, and production-validation vehicle builds
- Provide on-site engineering support at prototype build locations, supplier facilities, and Workhorse manufacturing plants
- Lead component-level issue resolution and support vehicle-level troubleshooting
- Support production, field-service, warranty, and root-cause investigations involving assigned components
- Ensure components meet performance, reliability, quality, safety, cost, and timing requirements
- Drive issues to closure while coordinating activities across suppliers and internal cross-functional teams
Requirements
Qualifications & Skill
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
- Two to five years of engineering experience within the automotive industry
- Experience developing or integrating high-voltage electrical components and systems
- Understanding of automotive development phases, including mule, design validation, production validation, and production launch
- Experience managing multiple components, suppliers, and development activities simultaneously
- Strong technical communication, problem-solving, and project-management skills
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, quality, and service teams
- Ability and willingness to travel to supplier engineering and manufacturing locations
