Financial Advisor
Description

  

This position is responsible for providing customers with information regarding financial planning that result in advice to meet the financial goals & objectives of the customer. The Financial Advisor will incorporate brokerage accounts, fixed and variable annuities, mutual funds and insurance products. The incumbent maintains a high level of sales and negotiation skills, knowledge of non-deposit investment products and services. The Financial Advisor ensures that his/her own work complies with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, broker dealer and bank policies. The work is performed on a part time basis with limited supervision. Procedures may be adapted with management approval to address unusual situations. The incumbent is responsible to report to the designated supervisor of the broker/dealer for all security transactions and to the investment program manager for all other matters.

  

Essential Functions:

  • Provides professional, courteous and efficient service to all internal and external customers.
  • Responsible for the sales and distribution of individual and business investment products to customers to ensure profitability and satisfy customer needs with the ultimate goal of providing the best service and financial advice possible to our customers.
  • Develops individual customer financial advice and strategies based on information provided by the customer as well as bank guidelines. Reviews and updates plan annually as required and as based on changes to client situations. Reviews advice with designated supervisor per broker/dealer policies as needed to resolve any questions.
  • Increases the bank’s market share and revenue through business development efforts, including education of other bank employees and public seminars. Advises staff on how to address customers regarding financial services, determine potential customer investable assets and other important details to ensure steady referral flow and high level of customer service in compliance with industry and regulatory standards.
  • Attends continuing education training and seminars.
  • Maintains proper documentation and paperwork, and files required activity reports to management as needed. Complies with applicable laws and regulations and maintains various compliance files, including advertising, complaint and correspondence
  • Makes sales call by phone or in person, through own contacts or from bank-generated leads. Determines steps to achieve fee income budget and achieves monthly and annual sales goals. Sells non-deposit investment products, including mutual funds, fixed and variable annuities, and wrap products.
  • Ensures efficient and satisfactory implementation of customer services in keeping with the bank’s policies and procedures.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties or special assignments as required or assigned.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops plan to achieve sales goals, in terms of specific actions and steps needed as well as planning and managing time      effectively. 
  • Conducts informational seminars to provide existing or potential customers new product information and latest market trends to support sales efforts.
  • Informs management of progress relative to goals and asks for assistance for training and for other issues as needed. 
  • Generates referrals for the bank.
  • Works with the program manager to develop sales and marketing initiatives to increase awareness of product offering.
  • Acts as liaison between broker/dealer and bank representatives.
  • Keeps informed of industry product trends and issues. Identifies, develops and implements improvements as needed. 
  • Coordinates and supports the work of other team members if needed.
  • Complies with and maintains current knowledge of all applicable federal and state banking regulations, as well as with all bank and department policies and procedures.
  • Participates in civic activities to promote growth and development of the community and a positive image for the bank.

Working Conditions:

  • Physical surroundings are generally pleasant and comfortable with protection from weather conditions but not necessarily      from temperature changes.
  • Normally seated with freedom of movement on a regular basis.
  • Required to travel throughout the bank’s service area to meet with clients.
  • Extensive operation of computers and other office equipment requiring dexterity and coordination and frequent use of hands.
Requirements

  

Position Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • NASD Series 6, 63, 7, 65/66 registrations, and Health, Accident & Life Insurance Licenses are required.
  • Registrations will be held by Cetera, Inc., a registered broker-dealer and registered investment advisor. Member SIPC. Cetera is unaffiliated with Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution. 
  • 4 year college degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3 years related experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of retail investment industry preferred.
  • Proven sales ability with track record of past sales success.
  • Demonstrated strong and productive working relationships with clients and business partners, including ability to gain and maintain client trust.
  • Self-directed, with ability to plan own activities to achieve sales goals; self-starter with the ability to work with minimal      supervision.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Strong teaching skills
  • PC skills and knowledge of financial software helpful.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Able to interact harmoniously, professionally, cordially and effectively with others, focusing upon the attainment of      bank goals and objectives through a commitment to teamwork.
  • Ability to read/see documents and computer screens, to communicate in person and via the telephone and to use a computer and other office equipment.
  • Is dependable and conforms to punctuality and attendance standards.
