Safety Coordinator
Description

 Under direction of the Safety Manager, provides guidance and support for all employees to ensure compliance with local, State, and Federal regulations regarding safety and health. This position works closely with field personnel and management to foster a safe work environment through job site inspections, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives. Responsible for enforcing all Digging & Rigging policies and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to identify hazards, conduct jobsite inspections, and recommend corrective actions. Must be highly motivated and able to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.  Must have the ability to work under pressure effectively, adapt to an ever-changing schedule in a fast-paced environment, and ability to lift and carry equipment.  Demonstrates strong customer focus skills, effective documentation, teamwork, detail-oriented, and communication skills.  Excellent oral and written communications and human relations skills. 


Education, Training, and Experience

High school diploma or GED required.  Possession of a valid class C driver’s license required, CDL or FMCSA qualifications preferred.  Experience of the crane rental and heavy industry preferred. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform in the position may be considered. 


Examples of Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Conducts all business in a professional, respectful manner and in accordance with Digging & Rigging Inc.’s policies and procedures and outlined in the Compact of Respect.
  • Works closely with field employees and management to ensure safety compliance.
  • Performs related assignments as required.
  • Understands and enforces all Company safety policies.
  • Monitors safety and health of employees in Company yards as well as on job sites with guidance from a Company Safety Manager. 
  • Conducts job site inspections and communicates any observed deficiencies to the Safety Manager.
  • Monitors and documents monthly equipment inspections.
  • Assists D&R Safety Managers with the investigation and reporting of accidents, injuries, and near misses to management and insurance carrier.
  • Organizes and maintains safety-related documents independently that are sent on a regular basis to the Safety Department Administrator for recordkeeping. 

Special Requirements

  • Must have enough physical strength and stamina to lift, move, and/or manipulate objects up to 50 pounds. 
  • Position requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and the completion of work may require physical exertion. Exposure to inclement weather is possible.
  • Possible extended workdays, long hours, and long-distance travel of more than 50 miles may be required.
  • Wearing of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Must be reliable, punctual, and able to function at a high level independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.
