Position: Field Service Engineer I

Department: Engineered Services Department


Primary Objective of Position:

Electric Machinery, WEG is seeking a motivated Field Service Engineer I to deliver industry-leading service for large industrial AC motors and generators worldwide. The successful candidate will support installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, field testing, and repair services at customer sites, including potential international travel. This role requires extensive hands-on technical experience and the ability to work independently and as part of a global team.


Major Areas of Accountability:

  • Field Service Delivery: Perform field services for large industrial AC motors and generators, including installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and repairs.
  • Field Testing: Conduct a variety of field tests on AC motors and generators, including insulation resistance testing, surge testing, vibration analysis, and electrical testing to evaluate performance and identify issues.
  • Customer Relationship Management: Promote strong customer relationships by demonstrating enthusiasm and dedication to resolving service requests effectively.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support to customers over the phone after-hours as needed.
  • Documentation: Complete daily updates, field service reports, time cards, and expense reports. Develop written documentation for services provided.
  • Sales & Proposals: Propose repair options and other products to customers. Deliver and explain quotes, and close sales as needed.
  • Training: Assist in the training of new team members, customers, and service partners on service procedures and best practices.
  • Safety & Compliance: Maintain a strong commitment to safety protocols, and complete required safety training, including TWIC cards and OSHA 40-hour training.
  • Travel: Be prepared for 100% travel, with the possibility of 50% international travel.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Education & Experience: A BS in Electrical, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical training, and/or 0-2 years of experience in field service for rotating equipment.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with large industrial AC motors and generators, power generation systems, and general industrial systems.
  • Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills, capable of interacting with customers and team members.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to travel extensively, lift up to 45 pounds, climb ladders or scaffolding, and use fall protection equipment when required.
  • Software: Proficiency in SAP, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Safety Certifications: Ability to complete required safety certifications and physical evaluations.
  • Travel: Must possess a valid passport and be eligible for international travel.
  • Random Drug Testing: Must successfully comply with random drug testing requirements.
  • Background Check: Must successfully pass a background check.


Physical Requirements:

  • Physical ability to travel freely within manufacturing and office facilities. This requires climbing stairs and moving over, around, and about shop machinery.
  • Have the physical ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds unassisted.
  • Physical ability to travel via public, commercial or personal transportation.
  • Must be able to legally drive a vehicle in the US.
  • Must be able to travel internationally; possess a valid Passport.

Salary:

75,000 - 85,000
