Spatial Front, Inc. (SFI) is seeking a Test Automation Engineer to support our growing team. SFI was recently awarded the 2025 USA Today National Top Places to Work award and the 2025 Washington Post Top Workplaces. The ideal candidate will design, build, and maintain automated testing frameworks for a complex PeopleSoft HCM environment in a secured federal setting. This role is focused on automation engineering rather than manual test execution and will establish reusable, scalable, and maintainable automation capabilities using frameworks such as PeopleSoft Test Framework (PTF), Tricentis, and other appropriate automation technologies. The candidate will work closely with developers, testers, functional analysts, and DevSecOps teams to automate regression, integration, interface, batch, and end-to-end validation and to embed automated quality checks into the delivery lifecycle. As a valued member of the SFI team, you will play a critical role in improving release quality, repeatability, and speed for mission-critical Federal Government systems.
Location
Crystal City, VA - On-Site/Hybrid
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain enterprise test automation frameworks for PeopleSoft HCM applications, integrations, interfaces, batch processes, and end-to-end business workflows.
- Build reusable automation components, libraries, utilities, standards, and patterns that enable scalable regression testing across multiple PeopleSoft modules and releases.
- Develop automated test suites using PeopleSoft Test Framework (PTF), Tricentis, or comparable enterprise automation platforms, selecting the appropriate approach based on application architecture and testing needs.
- Automate validation of PeopleSoft pages and components, Fluid user experiences, Process Scheduler activities, reports, integrations, security-related functions, and critical business processes.
- Create robust automation logic for synchronization, exception handling, recovery, parameterization, data-driven execution, reusable test data, and result validation to minimize false failures and improve suite reliability.
- Develop supporting scripts, utilities, and technical components to extend automation capabilities, manage test data, validate backend results, process logs, and streamline execution and reporting.
- Integrate automated tests with Azure DevOps (ADO), CI/CD pipelines, source control, release processes, and scheduled execution where appropriate to support continuous quality validation.
- Analyze automation execution results, application logs, interface outputs, and database data to distinguish framework or script issues from application defects and support efficient root-cause analysis.
- Establish and maintain automation engineering standards including framework architecture, coding conventions, naming standards, reusable asset management, version control, documentation, and peer review practices.
- Partner with developers, functional analysts, QA staff, Product Owners, and release teams to identify high-value automation candidates and maintain risk-based regression coverage aligned with release priorities.
- Improve automation coverage, execution speed, stability, maintainability, and reporting through continuous framework refinement and reduction of brittle or duplicative test assets.
- Support framework upgrades, tool configuration, environment connectivity, security setup, test accounts, and other technical prerequisites required for reliable automated execution across development, test, and release environments.
- Maintain technical documentation, execution evidence, automation metrics, and traceability to support release readiness, auditability, and continuous improvement of the automated testing capability.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and possess an active Secret security clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
- 3+ years of software test automation or quality engineering experience, including hands-on responsibility for designing or maintaining automation frameworks for enterprise applications.
- Hands-on experience with PeopleSoft Test Framework (PTF), Tricentis Tosca, UFT, Selenium, or a comparable enterprise test automation technology; strong PTF or Tricentis experience is preferred.
- Experience automating PeopleSoft HCM or similar ERP applications, including online transactions, integrations, batch jobs, reports, security scenarios, and end-to-end business processes.
- Strong scripting or programming skills used to extend test automation frameworks, build reusable utilities, manipulate test data, validate results, and troubleshoot automated execution.
- Experience with automation architecture concepts including modular design, reusable components, parameterization, data-driven testing, synchronization, exception handling, recovery, logging, and maintainable test design.
Desired Skills
- Experience establishing or modernizing an enterprise automation framework rather than only creating individual automated test scripts.
- Strong knowledge of PeopleSoft Test Framework (PTF), including reusable tests and test cases, variables, reserved words, runtime options, logs, migration of test assets, and automation of PeopleSoft business processes.
- Experience with Tricentis Tosca and/or qTest for enterprise test automation, model-based automation, execution management, or broader regression orchestration is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with PeopleTools components such as Application Engine, Process Scheduler, Integration Broker, Component Interfaces, queries, reports, Fluid pages, and PeopleSoft security.
- Experience integrating automated testing with Azure DevOps (ADO), CI/CD pipelines, source control, scheduled execution, or DevSecOps quality gates.
- Working knowledge of SQL and database validation for automated verification of transactions, interfaces, batch results, and downstream data changes.
- Experience supporting automation across PeopleSoft releases, patches, PUM changes, upgrades, tax updates, interfaces, and regression impacts.
- Experience working in Agile/SAFe delivery environments and secured federal or DoD systems is preferred.
- Tricentis, ISTQB Test Automation Engineer, PeopleSoft, SAFe, or other relevant automation/quality engineering certification is a plus.
