Whitin Community Center (WCC) is looking for its next Athletic Director to lead programs that keep youth, adults, and families active, engaged, and connected. From athletics and afterschool programming to Camp Whitin and special events, you’ll have the opportunity to build programs, lead a team, and help shape experiences that make an impact throughout the community.

What You’ll Do

As Athletic Director, you’ll take ownership of athletic and recreational programs from planning through execution. You’ll balance program development, staff leadership, customer service, budgeting, and day-to-day operations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and grow athletic and recreational programs for youth, adults, and families.
  • Oversee afterschool programming and serve as Camp Director for Camp Whitin during the summer.
  • Create seasonal athletic, fitness, and summer camp schedules based on community interest, participation trends, and financial goals.
  • Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate athletic, program, camp, gym floor, and birthday party staff.
  • Develop training programs for athletic and summer camp employees.
  • Create and manage the department's annual budget and monitor program expenses.
  • Coordinate and promote athletic activities, games, special events, fundraisers, gym rentals, and parties.
  • Develop and supervise afterschool, evening, and weekend programming, including programs serving middle school-aged youth.
  • Partner with Member Services, Marketing, Child Care, and other departments to coordinate programming, schedules, space needs, and promotion.
  • Work with Marketing to promote programs and reach a broad range of community members.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory of athletic and recreational equipment and supplies and coordinate purchases as needed.
  • Oversee the organization, safety, maintenance, and seasonal readiness of athletic facilities, storage areas, equipment rooms, and outdoor athletic spaces.
  • Ensure recreation spaces are properly set up, maintained, and returned to appropriate condition following programs and events.
  • Respond to member and guest questions and concerns with a strong focus on customer service.
  • Ensure facility policies and safety procedures are followed, including appropriate accident and incident reporting.
  • Support WCC and BVCP fundraisers and free family events.
  • Collaborate with the Grant Development Manager on potential grant opportunities supporting athletic programs and infrastructure.



Requirements

What We’re Looking For 


The ideal candidate combines experience in athletics or recreation with strong people leadership, organization, and customer service skills.


Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience in athletics, recreation, customer service, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching, coaching, or working with youth.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Strong leadership and staff-management skills.
  • Excellent customer service, administrative, and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a variety of people.
  • Strong time management and attention to detail.
  • Experience managing budgets and financial aspects of programs.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and seasonal programming needs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as programming requires.
  • Ability to travel locally between locations for meetings and training.

This is an active, hands-on role. Candidates must be able to:

  • Participate actively in youth games and activities.
  • Bend, reach, move throughout indoor and outdoor facilities, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Remain calm and respond appropriately to potentially hazardous situations.
  • Work in environments ranging from quiet office settings to active, busy, and sometimes noisy indoor and outdoor recreation spaces.
  • Work a flexible schedule based on programs, events, and seasonal needs

Salary Description
$50,000 Per Year
