Position Summary
The Lead Housekeeper is a working lead responsible for guiding and supporting the housekeeping team while performing hands-on cleaning and facility upkeep duties. This role sets the pace on the floor, ensures daily cleaning tasks are completed to standard, and serves as the first point of contact for the team when the Housekeeping Supervisor is unavailable. The Lead Housekeeper helps maintain a clean, safe, and organized manufacturing facility across the shop floor, offices, breakrooms, restrooms, shipping areas, and common areas.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Operations and Hands-On Cleaning
- Perform cleaning, sanitation, and housekeeping duties alongside the team, including floor care, waste removal, restroom cleaning, breakroom upkeep, and supply replenishment.
- Set the standard for quality and pace of work through consistent personal performance.
- Complete assigned cleaning routes and ensure all areas meet company cleanliness standards before the end of each shift.
- Respond promptly to spills, hazards, or urgent cleaning needs on the shop floor or in common areas.
Team Guidance and Coordination
- Serve as the on-the-floor lead, directing daily task assignments and helping team members stay on track.
- Step in as the primary point of contact for the housekeeping team when the Housekeeping Supervisor is unavailable.
- Help train new team members on cleaning procedures, chemical handling, equipment use, and safety practices.
- Communicate team progress, issues, and supply needs to the Housekeeping Supervisor.
Facility Standards and Inspections
- Conduct walkthroughs during and after shifts to verify cleaning quality and identify areas that need attention.
- Report facility maintenance concerns, including lighting, plumbing, flooring, and fixture issues, to the Housekeeping Supervisor or Maintenance.
- Help maintain accurate logs of completed tasks, inspections, and supply usage.
- Identify opportunities to improve cleaning efficiency, consistency, and workflow.
Safety and Compliance
- Follow all OSHA requirements, company safety policies, hazard communication procedures, and chemical-handling practices.
- Wear required PPE at all times and ensure team members do the same.
- Coordinate with Safety and Maintenance on spills, hazards, and facility conditions as needed.
- Handle cleaning chemicals and equipment according to product labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- At least 2 years of housekeeping or janitorial experience; experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
- Prior lead or senior-level experience preferred.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, equipment, sanitation practices, and workplace safety procedures.
- Ability to read and follow product labels, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), written procedures, and schedules.
- Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing environment, including exposure to heat and noise and compliance with required PPE.
- Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, maintain accurate records, and coordinate with team members and other departments.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and perform physical cleaning duties for extended periods; ability to lift and move housekeeping supplies and equipment as required.
