Position Overview


The goal of the Department of Athletics at Cherry Hills Christian School is to provide an environment of competition, cooperation, and teamwork for our students that glorifies God and provides valuable life lessons. Winning the contest is important to any competitor, but the lessons learned in the heat of competition are the most important attributes to be gained from the contest.


The Middle School Basketball Coach is committed to honoring Christ by preparing student-athletes to live fully for God in a rapidly changing world, knowing they are His masterpieces, uniquely designed for His purpose. The Coach will provide a Christian-based, nurturing, wholesome, and positive environment in which student-athletes can develop their basketball skills, character, teamwork, discipline, and faith.


Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct organized and purposeful basketball practice sessions.
  • Teach and develop fundamental basketball skills, team concepts, sportsmanship, discipline, and game strategy appropriate      for middle school athletes.
  • Practices – Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:45 pm – 5:15 pm. Game days vary. 
  • Prepare the team for games and competitions while emphasizing teamwork, effort, sportsmanship, and Christ-like character.
  • Distribute and collect team uniforms and equipment.
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with players and parents regarding team expectations, schedules, practices, games, and      program policies.
  • Create a positive, encouraging, and inclusive environment for all players.
  • Provide appropriate mentorship and encouragement to student-athletes both on and off the court.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Athletic Director regarding scheduling, program expectations, player development, and team needs.
  • Respect professional ethics that require confidentiality.
  • Follow procedures and policies established by the Athletic Director and Cherry Hills Christian School.
  • Have a personal and passionate relationship with Jesus Christ and a calling to serve as a positive Christian role model to our students.
  • Integrate biblical principles, character development, and Christian values into the athletic experience.
  • Be a dedicated and loyal team member supporting all school-level activities and school-wide initiatives.
  • Possess a strong desire to coach and develop athletes at the middle school level.
  • Be a responsible steward of the school's resources, facilities, equipment, and uniforms.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

Position Details


Position type: Seasonal, Part-time, Non-Exempt

Hours: Basketball season; practices Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:45–5:15 p.m. Game days vary. 

Pay: $1,750 - $2,500 stipend for the season (based on experience) 

Supervisor: Athletic Director

Requirements


Qualifications

  • Must have a strong and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, evident in both personal and professional life.
  • Prior coaching experience and/or collegiate basketball playing experience preferred.
  • Possess the ability to mentor student-athletes in their Christian faith, basketball skills, character development, and life skills.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of basketball fundamentals, team concepts, rules, and strategies.
  • Be adept at engaging with student-athletes and families and helpful in making parents confident in their choice of Cherry      Hills Christian.
  • Understand and embrace Christian education, having a biblical perspective on athletics and competition.
  • Be able to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with students, parents, coaches, faculty,      and staff.
  • Be personable, energetic, approachable, and enthusiastic.
  • Report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Be willing to collaborate with colleagues and other members of the Athletic Department.
  • Be proficient in technology and able to use technology for communication, scheduling, and team organization.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
  • High School Diploma or higher.
  • Must possess a CPR certification or be willing to obtain one before the season.
  • Must agree to the mission statement, values, and faith statement
Salary Description
$1,750 - $2,500
