Swim Coach
Description

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Swim Coach to support the development of swimmers within our competitive aquatics program. This position is responsible for creating and leading structured, engaging practices that focus on proper stroke technique, skill development, endurance, and continued swimmer progression.

The Swim Coach will be expected to take an active role in the development of each swimmer while creating a positive, encouraging, and team-focused environment.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement structured swim practices appropriate for the age and ability level of the team.
  • Provide instruction and feedback on all four competitive strokes, starts, turns, finishes, and proper swimming technique.
  • Track swimmer attendance, progress, skills, and other required team records consistently and accurately.
  • Communicate professionally with parents and guardians during designated practice hours regarding swimmer progress, expectations, scheduling, and general program questions.
  • Provide swimmers with clear, constructive feedback and help establish goals for continued development.
  • Maintain an organized, safe, and productive practice environment.
  • Work collaboratively with Aquatics leadership and fellow coaches to maintain consistency in program expectations and swimmer development.
  • Model positive sportsmanship, teamwork, accountability, and YMCA values for swimmers and families.

Qualifications:

  • Previous background in competitive swimming required; competitive coaching experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of competitive swim stroke technique, including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.
  • Experience developing swim practices and understanding how to structure workouts for skill development, conditioning, and progression.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively work with youth swimmers of varying abilities and provide clear, age-appropriate instruction and feedback.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and timely swimmer records.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Dependable, professional, and comfortable taking ownership of assigned practices and swimmer development.
Salary Description
$18 - $20 /hr
