Job purpose

The Tech Lead provides technical leadership and direction for our engineering team, guiding project delivery while mentoring and growing team members. This role is expected to bring strong working knowledge of AI tools and technologies, actively use AI-assisted development tools to improve team output and code quality, and model a habit of continuous, self-directed learning to keep the team’s AI knowledge and practices current as the technology evolves. 

Software development is fundamentally changing. At Edlio, AI isn't just an IDE autocomplete plugin - we are redesigning our systems so autonomous agents and non-engineering product teams using agents can safely build, configure, deploy, and operate on top of the platform that allows.

Technical Responsibilities 

• Architectural Leadership & Execution: Own system design and technical execution across our multi-tenant SaaS platforms (CMS, Mobile Apps, Payments, and Data Integrations). Translate product visions into scoped, sequenced technical specs with clear milestones.
• Platform Transformation for Agentic & Product Velocity: Architect the platform to be fully operable by AI agents and product builders. Design self-describing APIs, declarative configuration models, and strict guardrails so product teams using AI can safely build features, generate layouts, automate workflows, and inspect state without needing bespoke engineering interventions.
• Monolith Modernization & Service Decoupling: Lead the decoupling of legacy monolithic backends (Java, .NET) into modern, containerized Node.js/TypeScript services, serverless workflows, and clean API boundaries.
• Hands-on Code Reviews & Engineering Rigor: Conduct deep technical code reviews. Enforce clean 12-Factor principles, robust schema validation, resilient database migrations, and comprehensive test coverage. Pair with engineers to diagnose and resolve subtle technical hurdles.
• Production Reliability & Performance: Own core system performance and reliability — optimizing database query paths, resolving distributed bottlenecks, tuning edge caching, and building robust observability.
• AI-Native Development Norms: Champion agent-assisted development across the engineering org. Integrate autonomous agents into CI/CD for code reviews, automated regression checks, and RAG/embedding pipelines (OpenSearch).
• Cross-Functional Partnership: Partner closely with Product Managers, DevOps, and team tech leads to balance aggressive product velocity with architectural debt reduction and platform resilience.

Architecture & Backend Systems

7+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, with 2+ years in a technical lead or senior architectural capacity.

• Deep production experience in TypeScript / Node.js and at least one enterprise backend stack (Java or C# / .NET).
• Proven track record modernizing monolithic codebases into modular, decoupled microservices or serverless architectures.
• Exceptional API and system design skills: building self-describing REST APIs, OpenAPI/JSON schemas, idempotent webhooks, and declarative configuration layers that external tools and agents can inspect and manipulate.

Database & Data Engineering

• Advanced relational database depth with MySQL / Aurora or PostgreSQL (query plan optimization, indexing strategies, zero-downtime schema migrations, and replication troubleshooting).
• Familiarity with modern document/caching stores (MongoDB, Redis) and event streaming / queuing (Kafka / SQS).

Cloud Infrastructure & Edge

• Solid operational experience on AWS (ECS, Lambda, RDS, S3, CloudWatch) or Azure (App Services, SQL, Front Door).
• Working knowledge of containerization (Docker), modern CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions), and edge routing/WAF (Cloudflare).

Modern AI & Agentic Systems

• Deep practical intuition for building with modern LLMs and agent frameworks: prompt engineering, context window management, embeddings, RAG architectures (vector search / OpenSearch), and tool-calling/function-calling schemas.

Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience designing platforms or SDKs where non-developers or automated systems create workflows, templates, or integrations.
• Familiarity with frontend dynamic block/template rendering engines (e.g., Liquid) and modern React/Next.js architectures.
• Experience in high-scale multi-tenant SaaS environments, municipal/government/EdTech compliance, or payment gateways.
