Description
Second Shift Heat Treat Operator 12:00PM-8:30PM Monday- Friday
Job Purpose:
To operate one or more furnaces to heat treat metal tools and meet the established rates of production.
Essential Functions:
- Salt Furnace-Loads hammers on racks/baskets to go into salt pot; salt furnace will automatically transfer product through salt bath, oil quench and rinse tank; operator will remove tools from rack at the draw furnace conveyor station and place onto conveyor; operator monitors controls closely (i.e. salt temp, oil temp, etc.) and cycle times to ensure overall quality is being achieved; and monitors exit of draw furnace to ensure proper unloading.
- Face Hardening- Loads face of hammer by hand into furnace; places tools onto draw furnace conveyor; monitors all temperatures to ensure overall quality is achieved; and monitors exit of draw furnace to ensure proper unloading.
- Degrease or remove scale from parts and clean salt pot and draw ovens as required.
- Loads and unloads tools into carts and transports to appropriate staging area for next manufacturing process.
- Completes the appropriate routing sheet and inputs data entry information in a timely manner.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
- One to three months of related experience or on-the-job training.
Physical:
- Must be able to walk and stand at equipment for 8 hours or more per day.
- Must be able to use both hands to finger, handle, feel and reach with hands and arms.
- Must be able to frequently lift up to 10 pounds; occasionally lift 50 pounds and occasionally move up to 100 pounds.
- Must have close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus on work.
- Employees will be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, high noise levels, and vibration to hands.
- Employees will be required to wear hearing protection, safety glasses and foot protection.
Mental:
- Must have the ability to read and comprehend simple written and verbal instructions and procedure manuals.
- Must be able to perform mathematical skills such as: addition, subtractions, multiplication, and division of all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; and ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
- Must have the ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
