Description

Are you always the person who knows what everyone will be talking about next? Do you have big ideas—and the drive to actually make them happen? PETA is looking for a creative, highly motivated social media strategist who can help keep the world’s largest animal rights organization at the center of cultural conversation. If you’re a sharp writer, a strategic thinker, and someone who sees opportunities everywhere, we want to hear from you!

Position Objective:

To develop and execute innovative, culturally relevant social media strategies and special projects that reach new audiences, keep PETA at the forefront of online conversation, and inspire people to take action for animals

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

Develop bold, innovative social media concepts and strategies designed to reach and engage audiences, with a particular focus on reaching younger generations

• Stay immersed in social media, internet culture, entertainment, news, emerging platforms, creators, memes, trends, and other cultural conversations, identifying opportunities for PETA to respond quickly and creatively

• Lead the follow-through on ideas generated through PETA’s various brainstorms, turning promising concepts into actionable projects and driving them through completion

• Proactively identify opportunities for PETA to become more timely, culturally relevant, creative, and effective on social media

• Conceptualize and manage special social media projects from start to finish, including developing creative approaches, writing briefs and scripts, identifying collaborators, coordinating timelines, and ensuring successful execution

• Work closely with the Audio/Visual department to develop social-first video concepts, including original shoots, humorous and staged videos, experiments with new formats, and other content designed specifically for social audiences

• Serve as a key social media liaison to outside creative, social media, and advertising agencies; develop briefs, evaluate ideas, provide creative direction and feedback, and ensure that agency work is innovative, effective, and consistent with PETA’s mission and voice

• Write, edit, and review social media copy and creative concepts, ensuring that content is compelling, accurate, on-brand, and optimized for each platform

• Challenge existing approaches and continually identify ways to develop new social media series, formats, experiments, partnerships, and other opportunities to expand PETA’s reach and influence

• Monitor social media performance and audience behavior and use insights to inform future creative and strategic decisions

• Maintain an understanding of emerging social media platforms, technologies, tools, and best practices and recommend opportunities for PETA to experiment and innovate

• Manage multiple fast-moving projects simultaneously, anticipate obstacles, solve problems independently, and drive projects toward completion

• Exercise sound judgment and confidentiality at all times

• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience

• Minimum of five years of relevant social media, digital marketing, creative strategy, communications, or related experience

• Demonstrated experience developing and executing creative social media strategies and campaigns

• Proven ability to take an idea from initial concept through execution, including coordinating with multiple stakeholders and managing complex projects

• Extensive knowledge of major social media platforms, emerging platforms, internet culture, online trends, and the ways that younger audiences consume and share content

• Exceptional creative instincts and the ability to identify timely opportunities and turn cultural moments into compelling content and campaigns

• Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
