Position Summary

The Busser plays an essential role in keeping the dining room organized, polished, and ready for every guest. You’ll work closely with Servers, Hosts, and restaurant leadership to maintain tables, anticipate guest needs, support service, and ensure a clean and welcoming dining environment.


Success in this role means working with speed and attention to detail, communicating effectively with the team, and consistently delivering JAG’s standards of cleanliness, hospitality, and service.


Key Responsibilities

Guest Readiness & Table Maintenance

  • Reset and sanitize tables to JAG standards with the correct place settings, glassware, and tabletop details.
  • Pre-bus tables efficiently throughout the dining experience, removing unnecessary items without disrupting guests.
  • Clear and reset tables promptly between parties to support efficient restaurant flow.
  • Maintain clean and organized dining room sections, aisles, tray stands, and service areas.
  • Respond immediately to spills or potential hazards and communicate safety concerns to leadership.

Guest Service & Support

  • Maintain water service and assist with bread, coffee, and other non-alcoholic beverage service as directed.
  • Anticipate guest needs for additional silverware, napkins, share plates, condiments, and other service items.
  • Respond graciously to guest requests and communicate them promptly to the appropriate Server or Manager.
  • Assist Servers in maintaining tables throughout each stage of the dining experience.
  • Support the overall guest experience through attentive, discreet, and efficient service.

Service Support

  • Assist Servers and other Front of House team members during high-volume service periods.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of glassware, flatware, china, linens, and other service supplies.
  • Support table turns while ensuring presentation and cleanliness standards are never compromised.
  • Assist with private dining and events, including room setup, water service, clearing, and resets as assigned.

Cleanliness, Sanitation & Safety

  • Follow all DOH/health codes, sanitation standards, allergy protocols, and cross-contact prevention procedures.
  • Maintain clean and organized side stations, service alleys, dish-drop areas, and other assigned workspaces.
  • Handle china, glassware, flatware, and service equipment safely.
  • Sweep and spot-clean dining and service areas as necessary.
  • Report spills, breakage, hazards, and safety incidents immediately.

Stocking & Sidework

  • Restock side stations with glassware, flatware, linens, napkins, condiments, and other service supplies.
  • Polish glassware, flatware, and service items as needed.
  • Maintain organized and properly stocked service stations throughout the shift.
  • Complete assigned opening and closing sidework.
  • Assist with section setup and breakdown, trash removal, and linen handling.
  • Receive and organize Front of House supplies when assigned.

Communication & Teamwork

  • Communicate table status, guest needs, and service priorities clearly with Servers, Hosts, Managers, and other team members.
  • Work collaboratively with the entire Front and Back of House team to maintain smooth service.
  • Participate in pre-shift lineups and remain informed about daily features, events, and service priorities.
  • Step in to support teammates during peak periods while maintaining assigned responsibilities.
  • Contribute to a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environment.

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ months of restaurant experience in a Busser, Server Assistant, or similar support role preferred; high-volume or upscale restaurant experience is a plus.
  • Guest-first mindset with a strong sense of hospitality.
  • Clear communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to learn floor plans, table numbers, service standards, and restaurant procedures quickly.
  • Food Handler certification or ability to obtain one as required by local regulations.
  • Reliable attendance and schedule flexibility, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Stand and walk for extended periods, including shifts of up to 8+ hours.
  • Lift and carry up to 35–40 lbs.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, and carrying of trays, bus tubs, and service supplies.
  • Ability to move quickly and safely through a busy dining room.
  • Work in an environment with variable noise and temperature conditions.
  • Safely use cleaning products and chemicals according to established procedures.
  • Slip-resistant footwear required.
