Description

We are seeking a Substation Wireman Electrician to support the construction, maintenance, and repair of utility substations. Candidates with industrial or commercial electrical experience are highly preferred, although qualified electricians with strong residential experience will also be considered. This position requires both electrical installation work and hands-on construction labor while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, quality, and productivity.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Construct, maintain, and repair electrical transmission and distribution substation systems.
  • Install and maintain conduit, wiring, bus work, circuit breakers, PTs, CTs, transformers, capacitor banks, relay panels, batteries, battery chargers, and associated equipment.
  • Install conduit systems, control wiring, grounding systems, and electrical equipment in accordance with project specifications and safety requirements.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and construction plans.
  • Assist with installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of substation electrical systems and equipment.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment as required.
  • Assist with testing, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Perform manual labor associated with substation construction projects, including material handling, equipment installation, and site cleanup.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and industry standards. 


Requirements

Employment Standards:

Knowledge, abilities and skills must consist of; considerable knowledge of the practices, methods, tools and materials used in electrical construction and installation in substations. Knowledge of the occupational hazards of the electrical trade and necessary safety precautions. Knowledge of First Aid, CPR and all safety rules as stated in the company Safety Manual. Must possess and maintain a Class A commercial driver’s license.


Physical Standards:

Required physical abilities to climb, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger dexterity, grasp, and repetitive motions. Must be able to routinely lift objects under 10 pounds; occasionally lift objects from 10-25 pounds, infrequently lift objects from 25 – 30 pounds and infrequently lift object over 50 pounds.


Environmental Conditions:

Work is performed outside and includes being exposed to extreme cold, extreme heat, inclement weather, noise, mechanical hazards, electrical hazards, darkness and occasional poor lighting conditions.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or recognized equivalent. Formal education and/or training in electrical theory or electronics
  • 5+ years of hands on experience of either high, medium and or low voltage testing of electrical power equipment – At least 2 years as a substation Electrician 2 Class or demonstrated equivalent knowledge and experience is required.
