Job Summary
Forum Communications Company is seeking a Region Manager for our Western North Dakota Broadcast and News operations – KBMY CBS and ABC – The Dickinson Press, The Willison Dispatch and the Mackenzie County Farmer. The Region Manager will report directly to the Vice President of Broadcast and will be responsible for the management of all aspects of the stations in highly competitive markets as well as the sales of the news markets. The ideal candidate will have experience as a General Manager or in a top leadership position in broadcasting, preferably with a background in broadcast sales, news, or marketing. Candidate must also have a demonstrated leadership ability to grow both broadcast and digital sales and customer base while generating high level results.
Essential Functions
• Direct and manage the overall operations of the broadcast stations to drive results including established goals and objectives in sales, ratings, audience, profit and operating income.
• Direct and lead news property sales leaders to grow sales teams and results.
• Collaborate with appropriate executives to oversee the 24/7 broadcast and technical requirements of the stations
• Drive business and partnership development efforts to further group goals.
• Identify and implement more efficient approaches to operations and processes throughout the stations.
• Represent the properties in the communities to develop and maintain strong community relationships.
• Seek out opportunities to contribute to the local markets for the betterment of the communities.
• Recruit, develop and retain a strong leadership team providing guidance and coaching to maximize team performance.
• Execute corporate policies and objectives while maintaining the highest level of ethics and industry standards.
• Establish and maintain an innovative and highly collaborative culture atmosphere that promotes idea generation, open communication and respect for team members.
• Create a diverse, collaborative, fun and stimulating work environment.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, mass communications, business management or related field.
• Five years’ experience in a broadcast setting.
• Knowledge of supervisory rules and policies.
• Knowledge of AP style, the Freedom of Information Act and libel laws.
• Strong organizational and attention to detail skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to be flexible and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
• Ability to effectively present information to employees, management and/or groups.
• Ability to promote teamwork and interdepartmental cooperation.
• Ability to motivate others.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is insurable by the company.
• Must carry an acceptable level of vehicle insurance as required by the company.
