Description

Position Scope:


The Paving Technician at Stowers Machinery is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of paving equipment, ensuring optimal performance and reliability for customer operations.

This role supports both shop and field service activities, working with asphalt pavers, compactors, rollers, and related machinery.

The technician plays a key role in delivering high-quality service that aligns with Stowers Machinery’s commitment to customer uptime and satisfaction.


Typical Hours: 7:30-4:00pm. Occasional Saturdays may be needed based on business needs. 

Requirements

 

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with working knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine systems
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot paving equipment issues efficiently
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting service manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools
  • Basic computer skills for documenting service work and utilizing diagnostic software
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety practices
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills


Preferred Qualification(s):

  • OEM certifications related to Caterpillar or paving equipment manufacturers
  • CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) or ability to obtain one
  • Experience with advanced diagnostics and telematics systems
  • Welding and fabrication skills


Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Technical or vocational training in diesel technology, heavy equipment repair, or a related field preferred


Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate accountability for quality of work and job completion timelines
  • Serve as a mentor to apprentice or junior technicians as needed
  • Promote a safe and collaborative work environment
  • Represent Stowers Machinery professionally when interacting with customers on job sites


Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • 2+ years of experience working with paving equipment, heavy machinery, or diesel engines
  • Familiarity with asphalt paving operations and job site workflows
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance and major component repairs
  • Ability to work independently in field service conditions with minimal supervision
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a customer-focused mindset


Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in both shop and field environments, including construction job sites
  • Regular exposure to outdoor conditions, noise, dust, and heavy equipment
  • May require lifting up to 75 lbs., climbing, bending, and standing for extended periods
  • Occasional travel and extended hours, including overtime, may be required to meet customer needs
