Position Summary

The In-Store Bank Branch Manager is responsible for leading the daily operations, customer experience, business development, employee supervision, and regulatory compliance of the Bank’s branch located within VG’s grocery store. This position manages branch staff, supports deposit and consumer banking growth, builds relationships with customers and community partners, and ensures the branch operates in accordance with Bank policies, procedures, internal controls, and applicable banking regulations. Because the office operates in a retail grocery environment, this role requires flexibility, visibility, strong customer engagement, and the ability to lead effectively during extended branch hours, including rotating weekends.

Essential Functions

1. Manage the daily operations of the in-store branch, including opening and closing procedures, staffing, transaction oversight, cash management, vault control, balancing, security procedures, and branch maintenance.

2. Provide leadership, coaching, training, scheduling, and performance management for assigned branch personnel to ensure consistent service, operational accuracy, and achievement of branch goals.

3. Deliver exceptional customer service by assisting customers with banking needs, resolving escalated concerns, and ensuring all customer interactions reflect the Bank’s standards for professionalism, responsiveness, and relationship-based service.

4. Develop and expand customer relationships by identifying financial needs and recommending appropriate Bank products and services, including deposit accounts, digital banking services, consumer loans, and referrals to other Bank partners.

5. Support branch sales and service objectives by promoting a customer-focused environment, monitoring branch performance, and coaching staff on relationship-building and product knowledge.

6. Ensure branch compliance with Bank policies, operating procedures, audit standards, security requirements, and applicable federal and state banking regulations, including Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering requirements.

7. Monitor and approve transactions within assigned authority, including check-cashing approvals, overrides, exceptions, overdraft review, and other branch-related decisions consistent with Bank policy.

8. Maintain appropriate staffing coverage for the in-store retail environment, including extended hours, evenings, and rotating weekends, while ensuring employee schedules meet customer service and operational needs.

9. Build and maintain a professional working relationship with VG’s store management and staff to support a positive customer experience, appropriate coordination, and effective representation of the Bank within the grocery store setting.

10. Participate in community outreach, business development, and local relationship-building activities that enhance the Bank’s visibility and reputation in the market area.

11. Prepare, review, and communicate branch performance information, operational reports, staffing needs, customer trends, and recommendations to Retail Banking leadership as needed.

12. Identify operational issues, customer service concerns, training needs, and process improvement opportunities, and work with appropriate internal partners to resolve them effectively.

13. Perform Relationship Banker and customer transaction duties as needed to support branch operations and customer service demands.

14. Assume additional responsibilities as required.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position directly supervises assigned branch employees and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Bank policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and selecting candidates, training employees, planning and assigning work, evaluating performance, coaching and developing staff, addressing employee concerns, supporting corrective action when appropriate, and maintaining a productive and professional work environment.

Requirements

  

Minimum Qualifications

· Minimum of five years of banking experience, preferably with branch, teller, relationship banking, or retail banking experience.

· Minimum of three years of supervisory or management experience.

· Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, management, or related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Strong knowledge of retail banking products, branch operations, customer service practices, cash handling, internal controls, and regulatory compliance expectations.

· Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, motivate, and develop employees in a customer-facing environment.

· Sales and service orientation with the ability to identify customer needs and recommend appropriate banking solutions.

· Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, make sound decisions, and respond effectively to operational and customer service issues.

· Proficient computer skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Office products and Bank systems.

· Professional appearance, sound judgment, integrity, and commitment to confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

· Prior experience managing or working in an in-store, supermarket, or high-traffic retail banking environment.

· Experience with consumer lending, deposit growth, community engagement, and retail branch business development.

· Working knowledge of core banking systems, digital banking tools, and branch reporting processes.

Work Environment and Schedule

This position operates in a professional bank branch located within a busy grocery store environment. The employee will regularly interact with customers, branch employees, Bank personnel, VG’s store personnel, and members of the public. The normal work schedule may include weekdays, evenings, and rotating weekends based on branch hours and business needs. The position is not remote or hybrid.
