Description
Leading Freight Forwarder / NVOCC/ Customs House Broker/ Tank Container Operator, with locations in 24 countries and over 3000 employees strong, is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to fill the position of Import Supervisor in our Jersey City, NJ Office.
The ideal candidate is a strong leader with freight forwarding and customs processing experience who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to operational excellence and customer satisfaction
What You’ll Do:
- Supervise and support the daily activities of the Import Department.
- Monitor workloads and distribute assignments to ensure timely and accurate processing.
- Train and develop team members on import regulations, systems, procedures, and best practices.
- Conduct performance management activities, including feedback and employee development.
- Oversee import shipments from arrival through final delivery.
- Ensure accurate preparation and processing of customs clearance documentation.
- Coordinate customs entry filings, ISF filings, and other government agency requirements.
- Obtain Customs and other regulatory releases and ensure timely cargo movement.
- Arrange transportation, delivery, warehousing, and related logistics services.
- Maintain compliance with U.S. Customs regulations and applicable domestic and international shipping requirements.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for customers regarding import shipments.
- Proactively communicate shipment status updates and resolve issues promptly.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers.
- Ensure service commitments are met while delivering an exceptional customer experience.
- Negotiate rates with trucking companies, warehouses, carriers, and service providers.
- Respond to customer and agent rate requests.
- Work closely with accounting to resolve billing discrepancies and ensure accurate invoicing.
- Support department profitability through efficient operational management.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, quality standards, and security programs.
- Maintain accurate shipment records and tracking information.
- Support ISO, C-TPAT and Responsible Care compliance initiatives.
- Promote continuous improvement, operational efficiency, and process excellence.
Requirements
What We're Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- 4+ years of experience in freight forwarding, import, customs brokerage, or international logistics.
- Strong knowledge of import operations and U.S. Customs regulations.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Excellent communication, customer service, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong customer-facing experience, with a proven ability to build relationships, communicate effectively, and deliver exceptional service to internal and external stakeholders

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook.

Salary Description
Between $75k and $85k
